Mat Lindsay (the researcher formerly known as Nylarthotep...now he has a name, all he needs is a face)

Can anyone please tell me why my entry has another researcher's name on it in the version that is currently classed as pending? The researcher's personal space has a cryptic note at the top saying that I really don't want to read what's below and then seems to quote soemthing about entries not being worked on. This situation puzzles and worries me.

The fact of the matter may be that my personal space has some entries that have not been worked on recently, but my absence from this forum is at the current time due to the fact that I have been signed off work by my doctor and diagnosed as suffering from acute attacks of anxiety. Checking my personal space when I finally feel able and finding this has not filled me with joy and happiness to say the least.

Please, could someone tell me what is going on in the case of this guide entry as I find the notes that are currently posted unhelpfull and feel that this is eroding my confidence in the folk in charge of this forum as a whole.

Hi Nylarthotep

Congratulations on having your article picked for the Edited Guide smiley - wow.

The article is 'pending' while it is in the Sub Editor's hands. If you want to talk to the Sub Editor about their plans for the article you could start a conversation in their message space.

As with other forms of publishing, you lose some control at the editing phase and this can be quite alarming the first time it happens. You might find it useful to read <./>SubEditors-Process</.> .

Hi

I understand the process that takes place when an article is edited for the guide, I was simply concerned that the sub-editor in this case has been moved to the status of writer and researcher and the H2G2 editors have replaced him as editors of the overall article. There seems to be little or no explanation as to why and I was wondering if this is due to this particular sub-editor being replaced by another as there are notes on his personal space which seem to indicate that he has been unable to work on guide entries for some time and has what is termed "developmentitis."

Any ideas as to what is going on in this case?

Ah. In that case no, I have no idea what is going on. We'll have to wait for the Italics to answer during office hours.

Only one person can be credited as the Editor of an article. I suspect (don't take my word for it) that the Italics took it in-house to finish it off when Spelugx was done with it, and felt that both they and Spelugx needed crediting, so Spelugx's name became a "Written and Researched by" due to the weird one-person-edits thing.

Hope that helps!

If this was one of my articles I think I'd be pretty narked too, Nylarthotep. I hope the Italics can sort this out.

You are still credited on this article, Nylarthotep... it's just a bit annoying that contributors are credited in numerical (U-number) order, rather than the order of how much they contributed. It's a bit stupid that they can't just put Spelugx as another editor.

My suggestion to the italics would be to remove their name from the article, thus dropping Spelugx back into the "editor" slot... I'm sure they've done enough stuff that they have credit for to lose the credit this time... smiley - biggrin

Hmmm... possibly a case of the wrong button getting pushed when the italics took this back in house for editing. I recall a similar case with one of my own guide entries when the Scout's name got added to the list researchers! smiley - bigeyes

Hey Nylarthotep,

What happened here was that we took this back from the sub-editor to edit in-house and his name was left on the entry.

It should be removed now (if not it is cached and will changes later)

Spelugx's personal space (U183117) uses the tag that displays the name of the person reading the space, if logged in, whenever it is used. I see: "Hi RhoMuNuQ. You probably don't want to read the stuff below.", but you would see "Hi Nylarthotep. You probably don't want to read the stuff below." smiley - smiley

In my opinion, the section about 'developmentitis' is just a joke, and refers to his own entries rather than his entries to be subbed.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I came in from the pub the other night and happened upon the article and the strange notes on the sub-ed's personal space and started to construct a drunken conspiracy theory...I managed to figure out the fact that the message was generic and displayed the username of the researcher logged in, but I'll take your assurances that it's all sorted as you've never disappointed me before.

Looks like I caused confusion, sorry. I should have followed by off-site posting up with an on-site one. My userspace is currently aiming to be definitively inaccurate, so don't trust anything written on it.
