We should all hope that Yellowstone park doesn't blow up as a super-volcano, which it apparently does every 700 thousand years or so.

Not exactly. That average is taken from just three previous eruptions, one 640,000 years ago, one 1.3 million years ago and one 2.1 million years ago. Sure, if you average the TWO known intervals you get 730,000 which would still leave us 90,000 years until the next "scheduled" eruption. In other words, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Hopefully our advanced scientists will give everyone within a thousand miles enough advance warning so they can get out of the way.
