A Conversation for Faculty of Science, Mathematics and Engineering

I have a simple idea...But!

Upon deciding to write an article "Clyde Built - A Potted History", I've since realised that it could (and will) expand into a vastly bigger project!

With sub-articles such as :- The Great Ships of The Clyde, The Rise of Glasgow as the Second City of The Empire, The Slums of Glasgow, The Clyde at War, The Tobacco Barons, The Industrialisation of Glasgow and many others.

Now, as a newbie (to h2g2), how do I go about this?
Do I write the basic article and go from there?
Do I have to "jump" right in and become a field researcher or can I write a few articles (on the subjects I know)and then open the project up to others?
Is there a time limit on projects being completed?
Can projects "slide" into other areas of the Faculties (this project will start off in Marine Engineering but will go into The Faculty of Scocial Sciences)?

Please excuse this long post, I'm a bewildered newbie to h2g2, overpowered by his first idea for an article!

Hi J(J)C,

Glad to see such a rush of enthisiasm over your writing - excellent! smiley - smiley

You can do the project in any way you please, really; start off with a few pages yourself, invite anyone else over to help with it, and we can even put it in more than one faculty/department if it seems appropriate. You don't have to declare the project right away if you don't want to either: write a few pages to see how it goes, and then see how you feel about committing to more.

The time limit is usually six weeks, but that's only a guideline - you can really take as long as you like, depending on how much you want to write. Have a look at http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/University-Recruit - that tells you everything you should need to get started. Good luck with it!

smiley - cheers
