The story of shipbuilding on The Clyde goes back to the earliest darkest days of history! When Mr. Ug first thought of sailing ships then was born the Clyde Shipbuilding Industery.
The Golden Age
The Golden Age of Clyde Shipbuilding came about because of three (almost) simultaneous breakthroughs.
- Dredging of The Clyde
- Steampower
- Iron Ships
Whilst The (Lower) Clyde had a vigorous, and profitable, industry building wooden ships, these factors opened The (Upper) Clyde to The Empire; and so heralded The Golden Age of Clyde Built. Who can not name at least three famous Ships built on The Clyde (The Queens)2,
