Project Title: Frankenstein
A-number of Project Title Page: A21962522
Description of Project: 200 years ago scientists were trying to re-animate bodies a la Mary Shelley's novel ..... her inspiration came from her knowledge of these experiments through her husbands associates and her travels through Germany. We propose to look in depth at the scientists, the Castle Frankenstein (and legends surrounding it) along with Mr & Mrs Shelley. Just to complete the picture we thought we'd include an entry on the Movies and merchandise ensuring the survival of one of our most well-travelled monsters.
Proposed Completion Date: 30/06/07

OOh, that sounds fascinating! Read the book for A level, loved it!

It seems people either love it or hate it.
Either way Mrs Shelley had a lot more inspiration than a 'waking dream' as she claimed, so we're hoping we can make that interesting for those that weren't aware of it.

Oh it'll be like riding a bike, when you get the juices flowing .... it'll all come back to you - these'll be the easiest entries you've ever written.

This is one book I've always said that every wannabe sci boffin be made to study in detail!the perils of hubris, of questing for G/godlike-knowledge; rampant pollution, ozone holes, nuclear Armageddon...
Did this at uni, too and never lost interest in it so count me in if you need a hand.
P.S. Kenneth Branagh did a terrific and faithful translation to celluloid. worth checking out.

Tam - I was just browsing and came across your post - this project was abandoned then finished after a fashion if you see what I mean.
The end result can be read here:

Don't feel obliged to read them though - just for your information.

Interesting links, ta muchness.
I'm slightly surprised that there wasn't at least a little bit of reference to Byron; after all, it was, evidently, his doctor, Polidori, who gave Mary the initial ideas for the story.

Well Byron's mentioned loads of times in the Shelley entries, but I looked beyond that weekend to her interest in the subject prior to that and her knowledge of the castle and the Dippel rumours. I believe she had her story on a plate and just pulled it together in that weekend.

I've found that often - no,sometimes - happens with authors (having pretensions to being one myself); the threads just come together in the imaginative loom,.
