moving to melbourne
Ivan the Terribly Average Posted May 11, 2005
With Adelaide, it's easier to list the suburbs to avoid - but I don't want to upset anyone who might be lurking. In general, most suburbs are OK. If you want to be near a beach, that'll be more expensive. Really, I need to know what your budget is, and what line of work you're in - then I'll try to list a few places that would be near employment as well as all the rest.

I'm sure Adelaide is a wonderful place Ivan... which is why you moved to Canberra to get away from it presumably

There's nothing wrong with Adelaide... It's just that teasing people from Adelaide is a national sport. (Linus: )
$200-300 a week will get something fairly nice.
'Barker Hill' - I assume you mean Mount Barker - well, that's a town in the Adelaide Hills. It's a long way from the city, and even further from the coast. My personal opinion is that it's not nice. Happy Valley is one of those places that makes no impression on me, one way or another. I rarely went that far south.
If you want to be near a beach, but still have space for kids to play outside in safety, then here's a list of places to look up:
Taperoo
Semaphore
Largs Bay
Henley Beach
West Beach
Grange
Brighton - make sure it's the one in Sth Aus, as there's one in every state)
Hove
Seacliff
Seaford
Port Noarlunga
There's also Glenelg, but that's a bit crowded really. It depends how you feel about people, I guess.

Everywhere in Adelaide is within 20 minutes of a beach.
The soccer stadium's in Hindmarsh - you might want to consider that. It's inner-city, but reasonably spacious.
The big public hospitals are the Royal Adelaide in the city, the Queen Elizabeth at (?) Woodville, the Flinders Medical Centre in the mid-south, and another one up north at Elizabeth. I don't recomend living in Elizabeth.

elizabeth? is it mad, i heard the north is a bit mad ? and the south is better, so it doesnt matter where i go i will be near the beach anyway, my wife wants to know if its only the expensive houses that have swimming pools, and how much are the houses.
Are you into soccer yerself, glasgow celtic man ere .Are there any bars that show scottish games Sorry for the million questions

Houses... Well, prices vary, but it's still possible to get something reasonable for $250,000 or less. Some of these will have swimming pools... We had a pool when I was growing up, and it was a very average house in a very average suburb. Houses like that one are worth about $220,000 at the moment I think. The link I posted might have some links to real estate sites.
If you find a place to buy that doesn't have a pool, you can always have one put in later.
I'm not a soccer fan, I'm afraid - I don't really understand sport - basically, I'm a bookworm. I haven't a clue which bars and pubs show which games... There must be some that show Scottish matches, somewhere.
