You forgot the link: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A588882

It seems that this article is not so much about nudity itself, but about nudists/nudism. The definition given for nudity at the top of the entry isn't really a definition of nudity (which is really defined as the state of being unclothed), but is really more of a definition of nudism. After all, people can be nude without being nudists.

As such, I'd suggest changing both the title of the entry and the definition up top.

I'm also not entirely sure what this entry adds on top of what already exists in the naturism entry. Is this an entry about the problems and controversies associated with being a nudist? Or is it about the pros and cons? Or is it about how to be a nudist in modern society? I think the entry would a) be improved, and b) be more delineated from the naturism entry if you picked a tighter focus and structured your entry around that.

Just my 2 cents!

Ta very much,

The entry was written offline at work one day while I was bored. Then I got online and discovered the naturism entry, which pretty much said all that needs to be said. I contacted the editor of the naturism piece to see whether he thought it was worth doing anything with mine, and his advice was to submit it anyway... so here it is.

I'm still not sure whether adding this one to the edited guide would just be overkill, or what, but thanks for the input.

Well, what are we doing now? Sending it to the h2g2 Update HQ?

It didn't occur to me that 'naturalism' was an english term with a related meaning smiley - erm

Bossel,

Don't know what we're doing with it now, I'd forgotten about it.

Naturalism: study of nature
Naturism: getting back to nature by taking your clothes off.

David Attenborough is a TV naturalist who remained fully clothed while interviewing a gorilla family in the wild, ie not a naturist (at least not on TV)

Thanks for the support, back_ache.

Hey, I like it too, and I said so over in the Workshop thread! Only thing is that there seems to be a collision of entries.

Thanks for clearing the alism/ism thing smiley - smiley

Mmm, what to do? I've just reread the entry, plus the comments posted, and am still none the wiser.

This one doesn't really add anything to the naturism entry, but I'm happy with it as is and don't really want to try and rewrite it too much. Mikeys comments make sense tho'.

Can anyone just think of a better title/beginning? Or is there anything wrong with having two alternative entries on pretty much the same subject? Personally, when researching something, I try and read as much as I can from a variety of sources. Can't imagine anyone wanting to research nudity, but it takes all sorts.

There won't be two entries in the Edited guide about the same topic. If it doesn't warrant a move to the Naturism entry then we should move the thread back to the entry. Just make sure to have the word 'Naturism' somewhere in the entry so that anybody doing a search will find *both*. How does that sound in your ears?

I'd be willing to second the move, but I *still* think that this entry could be the basis of a great one on "Problems with Being a Nudist in Today's World" or somesuch.

Well, naturism is mentioned in the first line so that issue is addressed.

I think Mikey has a point, but don't quite know where to go with it. Let me ponder over the weekend, and harrass me if I don't come up with something.

Nudists - people who practise naturism

The entry could be revised so that it's about the people, and the attitudes of others towards them.

Ooops,

my first time online in weeks, and you've just posted to the forgotten entry. I'll try and get on it in the next few days, else do it while I'm in Fiji the week after. Might have to prowl the beaches interviewing people for their ideas....

Hey there, Stragbasher, how's it going?

If you think it's going to be a while yet before this entry is finished, how would you feel about our moving this thread to the Writing Workshop? If we did, some friendly souls might well stop by and lend a hand, or even just provide the encouragement and prodding smiley - winkeye you need to finish it up. To keep things more organized for us Scouts, we're really trying to limit Peer Review to just entries that are really, really finished and ready to go into the Edited Guide.

OK, I'm back.

Online again after too long of no fixed abode. Will get back into this one this week and try to present you with a 'finished' something real soon.

Thanks for bearing with me (titter!)

Right,

A little tweaking to convert it into an entry on nudists has been completed. I'm happy with it and think it's different enough from the naturism entry to stand on it's own.

If you want to bung it through the writing workshop, peer review, Mr Moxon's shredder, or whatever, then feel free.

typo:
practise -> practice

'Anybody... will know what we mean' should perhaps be altered to 'Anybody... will know what this is to say / what this is about' (the Editors frown upon occurences of 'we' and 'I'). Same with 'where we will display...' towards the end.

Now that you're mentioning it - yes, I remember the opening remark of 'Starship Titanic' smiley - smiley

I don't know if the statement 'Many nudists are gay men' stands a proof. Perhaps you could elaborate or supply statistics (or just declare it as conjecture). In Germany there's a whole 'culture' called FKK (Frei-Körper-Kultur), ie: a more or less organised group of nudists who you simply can't mix up with gay people. FKK is lived out in places with vision-proof (is that a word?) fences around them, which can be found by following the signposts labelled 'FFK-Strand' (FKK beach). Ooops, FFK is already mentioned in the 'naturism' entry.

All in all: could benefit from a couple of and tags, and gets my vote. For the Edited guide, that is smiley - smileysmiley - ok
