Andrew Johnson succeeded Lincoln I think. Funnily enough most assassinated US presidents were succeeded by a Johnson.
It's now almost impossible for a member of that family to be selected as a Vice anything in American political life.

I remember reading that some newspaper reports tried to attribute his slurred speech to a recent bout of ... was it yellow fever? That must have been the early journalistic version of our "tired and emotional"

You could of course read "most assassinated presidents" as the ones who were killed more than once during their office.
