Ladies and Gentlemen, raise your glasses to absent friends! This question was passed on to me by Malabarista, who's currently out of town and slogging her guts out on her Uni thesis, so she didn't have time to run it. Good luck Mal!
On to the question:
Whom did prison inmate Robert Lee Brock try to sue for five million dollars, and why?
There be klaxons.

Something ringing bells here, KB
Something about a granted stay of execution, and he wanted to die.
(Hides from klaxon in case he has got mixed up with another tale!!)

Not the right answer - but it's not a klaxon, either. Pity you were so vague on the details: it sounds like it could potentially have got you some QI points!

Don't know any details KB. Just something that stuck in my memory as a 'just in America' thing.
Henpecked husband murders his wife, court does not accept his story, but he is full of remorse anyway, and accepts sentence to 'Old Sparky'.
Neighbours and friends know otherwise, and club together for appeal.
Appeal is successful, and sentence commuted to life imprisonment, hence lawsuit as he wishes to die.....
That is the one I was thinking of....

Fate its a funny thing...think he sued him self, cant recall what it was for, was on a web site last week about law suites and his name cropped up..but for the life of me cant recall why....remember it because of his name.. does raise your glasses have any thing to do with it was it something he did while drunk or the effect prison hooch made him go blind...?

Was he the guy who...
On Martinique (I think, or at least somewhere in the French-speaking Caribbean) there was one guy in the island's prison when there was a volcanic eruption which devastated the island. Nobody else survived on the island except him, all the other survivors were evacuated, and he got his sentence commuted. I think pretty much the whole island was covered in lava except for the prison.
Would be bit off, surely, to sue for being let off?
