yuo, as far as I can tell havn't listed the possibility fo multiple forms of encryption, such as combining transposition and polyalphabetic cyphers, or any other two, three, or more.

Tis a valid point, do you fancy having a go?

well I would but I'm currently working on my own project, Just getting the rudaments done and all, but I could give it a shot, though I've been as it is...

Fair enough, I think it definitely deserves an article, titled something along the lines of 'Practical Cryptology', on the basis that most systems (like PGP for example) use more than one technique.
I'll have a crack at it when I get a moment, if I let you know when I'm done would you be prepared to glance it over for me?

shure thing Cestus, though I'm only partialy-versed in the methods of cryptography, theoretical phiscs is far more my domain, though quantum cryptography is fairly interesting.

QC!!!!!!!!!
I'm sure it's just me but it sounds a bit screwy, I'm old enough to believe that cryptology should be done by people with pencils in badly lit cellars, as soon as physicists get involved all hell breaks loose
My vision is Guy Fawkes, yours is Hiroshima.........
If it works it would be really impressive though, especially since it could offer OTP security and practically no key issues. Oh, yes, also infinitely fast and very inxpensive, how did I forget those. But I ask you, where is the craft, the skill, where are the skulksmiths in such a design *casts eyes heavenwards awaiting the accompanying vilin music to start*
Cheers,

assuming this works, this is a small list of files I came across a short while ago, might be a good resource for you, anyways, I'll quickly update my personal page with the address, so's you can have a little more info to work off of, though I'll try and find that QC link/article for you too.

the only problem is that QC, though perfect in most respects, takes a quantum-based computer, a problem that I don't even want to think about as Everything created for it would be fuzzy logic...ugh...though a Quantum co-porcessor in conjunction with a normal processor wold make for a decent machine

The Quantum Computer? or the stuff in the links I just posted? The QC would work as the quantum-co-prosser would be contorlled by programs that ran of the standard CPU, then give the CPR and it's programms the feedback theay needed, though keep in mind this is all just theory. Untill I get my hands on a functional dual processor unit like I described, I couldn't even begin to fully understand it.

imho quantum super position is a result rather than state, so i'm still sceptical that quantum computing will ever be a reality (then again even if it's a result that doesn't correspond to the state of reality it may still be able for it to produce the answer you require)
i thought the israelis announced that they'd got one to work a few years ago? but i also heard that the americans used 5 days of super computer time to decrypt something recently. all a lot of smoke and mirrors probably
anyway, here's some light-hearted cryptography:
