DA ; Simply Vicky: Don't get pithy with me!

Who'd have thought back in June 2001 when I joined, that it would become an issue? I was Della The Cat Woman (after the Michelle Pfeiffer character, not the Eartha Kit, Lee Merriweather or Halle Berry ones.) For the last 10 months I have been Adelaide then Vicky Adelaide. Now, the question arises, what to be now? Or, who, rather. The thing is, I smiley - love playing with names.
Back in January or February, I was Apple and Dora for a while, and both of those got positive responses, and I like Apple especially. I was thinking of Gwhyddien, who is a character in the Boudica books, who fought the Romans, but she got killed, which means that's probably not such a crash-hot idea.Another idea, is Lady Linda, after a Beach Boys song, and the name Linda has associations - (good ones.) I've been ?, Winged Victory and . since Friday, so I wonder? Someone suggested that I reclaim Della from those who would defame her (somewhat as feminists in the 1980s reclaimed the word "crone" (and I am one of those as well!))This is a good idea, though there are risks involved.
But really, I just want to move on, and stop being . which is a bit silly. I want to get on with talking about politics, the weather, linguistics, books and similar.

Aha.. a decision starts to form in my mind. A decision not to make a final decision yet. So, for a while (to be decided) I'll call myself after a Chinese student I had in 2002, a pretty and vivacious young woman with rosy cheeks, and I will be - Apple. *

We have right now, as a song in an advert puts it, "pewter skies". Depressing. smiley - musicalnoteGive me sunshine...smiley - musicalnote Or rain. Just not pewter skies. smiley - wah

Has anyone else heard about Israeli plans to 'take out' Iran's nuclear facilities?

* No connection with the baby of Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin...

Well whatever...smiley - biggrin I like this new one - Apple the Undecided!

As for the chinese student was that her name, albeit in chinese 'Apple' or a nickname you had for her because of her complextion?

'friad I'm not much cop with politics, I have some opinions on a few issues and some I just find upsetting so I do the ostrich thing...because I know that it isn't anything that I can do something about in effect.

I know the adage that it only takes one to change things, and bigger things have been started in smaller conversations - it's not always for me....at least not yet..

Everything else tho, whenever the mood strikes me, or piques my interest smiley - cool time permitting of course smiley - winkeye

Weather here is crisply bright and sunny. I thought warm enough to put my hair up in pony tail when I took my son to the bus stop...and the cold nipped my ears somewhat smiley - brr

As for books - finished reading the Dark Tower series, and I liked the end..and forgave SK for writing himself in it..altho it was painful to read in one book and seemed off, till I finished it.

Defame: To damage the reputation, character, or good name of by slander or libel. See Synonyms at malign.
Archaic. To disgrace.

*******

I believe you were pretty well involved in damaging the reputation of the name Della yourself.

Historical revisionism again I see.

On the issues of Isreal -Iran I think it has long been an Isreali policy to ensure that none of her neighbours become nulcear powers.

I am sure that if Isreal thought Iran was on the brink of having a working nuclear programme and they had the intelligence availible to be able to mount an attack that they thought would be succesfull I am sure they would go for it.

They attacked an Iraqi reactor in the 70s no?

No, the Chinese woman had chosen that name herself. Most of the Chinese students we had chose 'English' names, and her two friends were Ken (really, he did look like a Ken doll smiley - laugh, very conventionally handsome) and Dan, I think. But her name was much more interesting, I think one of the guys had given it to her because, he said, of her round face and rosy cheeks. They were a wonderful trio to tutor, we discussed everything under the sun, and probably, I was going to say didn't get any work done - but I think actually, we did.

Oh, you've finished the Dark Tower series? I have read one and a half books of it, and keep meaning to resume it. The book I am reading at the moment, is the Science of Middle Earth, by Henry Gee. (He writes for 'Nature' and should not be mistaken for Benny Hill's straight man.)

According to a story I finally found (after hearing something on the radio) on an American website, plans are already being made for Israel to bomb Iran's nuclear facilities. There have been rehearsals in the Negev desert already... Scary stuff! smiley - peacedove

I have a Chinese friend who chose for her English name...'Popo'. I haven't mentioned clowns, performing monkeys or teletubbies to her yet.

Popo smiley - laugh

One woman changed her name halfway through her course, because there are a few which are way too common in NZ anyway - Grace, and Jenifer being the most usual... This woman was a Jenifer, and chose something much more interesting, Lana I think.
