DA ; Simply Vicky: Don't get pithy with me!

Well, we've been watching a heap of movies on DVD in the last few months. They're divided into the ones we've bought (spending Far too much!) mostly Dr Who, Lord of the Rings and other science fiction, and ones we rent.
The most recent one has been 'Hollow Man' with Kevin Bacon. It had great special effects, a good story, but it lost points for me, because there was too much effing and blinding! Most of the sex scenes were gratuitous, maybe *one* was justified.
But. (There always is one, isn't there?)
There are three in the last few months which are quite superb! smiley - lovesmiley - magic
13th Warrior with Antonio Banderas (featuring a very old Omar Sharif.) Awesome story, interesting culturally as well.
Mindstorm, with Judge Reinhart, A really scary sf/thriller, and it deserves to be much more widely known. smiley - ufo
Frequency. Disregard the Quaid, it's a great movie, and even he's not that bad.
Just to show that TV can do well too, there was a drama about Boudicca some time in September, with Alex Kingston. Awesome!

Tonsil Revenge (PG)

We recently bought a DVD player for the first time.
One of the things we watched was "Excalibur" with the Director's commentary.
I learned a lot from that and had some of my long-term suspicions confirmed, like the aluminium armour... and that thing on Nicol's head...

The only DVD we have bought so far is one of my wife's favorites, "The Fisher King".

One of the first we rented was "The Tenth Kingdom", which Shnooks watched three or four times in a row.
We also got another of Uvula's favorites, "Usual Suspects", which also had a delightful director's commentary.

I don't understand all this crap about Diana.
But then, I don't understand why they are still beating Wallis into the ground, either.

Yes, Excalibur (1981) - brilliant! (Although the guy playing Arthur was a bit of a dweeb, he reminded us of Griff Rhys Jones. For some reason DVD players here (NZ) are becoming extremely cheap, which is a huge yay!!!smiley - biggrin
