Anyway take your time(when you can find the time)reviewing my colleague Feisor's list of Hints and Links at A719840 as well as examining the various features. And refer back to the list as need be, there's a fair bit of information.
Just two of the more obvious items are the assortment of <./>smileys</.> and our newspaper <./>thepost</.>. But as they say that's just the tip of the iceberg. Further investigation will reveal the Regional Researchers' Groups(at A660313), the Researchers' 
Map(at A5076614)and-among other things-the Personal Space Workshop(at A1123354). You may find the Workshop useful as a supplement to Spicing Up Your User Page, which Feisor refers you to.
