Back to the 60's discussion. What do you reckon to this - meritorious or monstrous ?

I wish there were pictures of it, it's hard to decide how *monstrous* it was from the little pic. Strangely enough, I did a google or two to find the building that I described which was *saved* and all I could find was the library that replaced it on another site:
http://www.greatervancouverparks.com/VancouverLibrary01.html
This despite the old building being used by such august organisations as MTV Canada, CTV television, and Virgin. I suppose we're still a bit wary of claiming we saved a *gem*.
Did you see the building before it was demolished? How bad was it or was it bad?

Zoemer, I think you'd say the Tricorn centre was bad by todays standards and tastes although it did have a certain attractive monolithic quality about it (if you like the KGB look ).
My opinion would somewhat depends on what they replace it with ..... if it's a souless mall then I think I'd say keep the Tricorn centre. The one disappointing thing is that they're knocking it down without knowing what is going up in it's place. You hope for something better but you know it's unlikely to happen.
I didn't know you were from Vancouver btw. I have family in Coquitlam and I was last there year before last. Had a nice break on Galiano Island

I couldn't agree more about the structure that takes it's place. When preserving a building I think care should be taken as to use as well. A beautiful old building shouldn't have the outside covered in sinage, for instance.
I lived in Coquitlam for five years! And when I used to sail the Gulf Islands I would often stop on Galiano. I grew up in Maple Bay, opposite Saltspring Island on Vancouver Island. Year before last you may have watched BCTV which is now Global Television, the company I work for.

As I mentioned in another thread, this tea must be terribly weak since I really haven't become alert this morning. (And the world needs more lerts.) Time to switch to double espresso. Which is odd since I am notorious for filling up a pint mug with tea first thing in the morning and then parading down the hallways to my wee office. I'm only half way through it and I've been here for half an hour. Breakfast Tea as well, you'd think it would wake me up a bit.
Oh well...

Small world Zoomer. I remember kayaking around Galiano and seeing otters and eagles. It was very hot and I had some ice cold Okanagans pear cider which didn't touch the sides as it went down. Nice memory

Kayaking! That must be why your apot hurts.
I prefer small sailboats, and a big one if I can afford to charter it. It's been a while. I am an aficionado of Okanagan cider as well. Wicked stuff if not treated with respect. Drop me a line if you ever come back, I'll buy you one at the local!
