h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

The waitress brought Paulh a plate piled high with Thanksgiving food: turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet potato, cranberry sauce, and corn bread. There was Indian pudding for dessert. "How can you eat all that, with the world ending?" said the diner next to him.

"If the world ends, I'm going to need all the sustenance I can get," Paulh replied. "If it doesn't, I still have to eat. Besides, today is the day *after* the end of the world."

As the he left the restaurant, Paulh noticed that the streets were full of people carrying signs. They were obviously not all on the same page about the world's end. One sign said, "The world really is ending, it's just late like everything else." Another said, "The end of the world can really ruin your day." A third one said, "Okay, so I was wrong. So shoot me." Another one said, "Can anybody use a used end of the world sign?" Then there was the one that said "The world has ended. Do you know where your loved ones are?"

Paulh wandered down along the river, where local Harvard men were rowing. It was a bucolic picture, except for the Loch Ness Monster...
