h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

When Paulh arrived in Sherlock Holmes's apartment, the landlady [Mrs. Hudson] embraced him effusively and claimed that he was her long lost husband. "Stay where you are while I get tea," she said and went to the kitchen. While she was gone, Holmes and Watson ignored Paulh as they worked on their latest case.

Having nothing to do, Paulh let his attention wander. He noticed a very small door in the wall. Next to it was a small table with a key on it. Kneeling down, he used the key to open the door. He saw a beautiful garden on the other side. Wishing he could be in that garden, he glanced at the table again and saw small bottle that said "Drink me' on its label. He drank, and immediately shrank. Now he was small enough to scoot through the door, and not a moment too soon! He could hear Mrs. Hudson returning with tea.

The garden was every bit as beautiful as it had appeared. Something was not right, though. It seemed that the mushrooms were moving. He counted them, and realized that there were 43 of them. Then he noticed MacDuff sitting by a fountain, fondling a huge snake and chatting with the fat lady from Griffindor House at Hogwarts.

Paulh clenched his fist and gazed at the sky with great wrath. "You're bringing on the climax much too soon!" he shouted at the author. "If the ultimate shootout happens now, what will be left for the end of the month?"

Just then a Three of Hearts came rushing toward him, shouting "Run for your lives! The dam has burst!"

Paulh was relieved. "The flood waters will wash away my opponents and give me a chance to be rescued in the next episode." Sure enough, the huge tsunami that was hurling itself at him bore an ark of some sort.

What a shame he didn't stay for tea...
