Perils of Paulh, episode 3:

Paulh was being pursued by wolves across the deck of a Russian ship that had been frozen in ice in front of the New York Public Library. "Senor, you need to choose a wife for this episode," said the Cloak of Magic Realism in a helpful tone of voice.

"I choose Little Mary Sunshine," Paulh gasped as he raced around a corner.

The next thing he knew, Little Mary Sunshine had opened a stateroom door and pulled him inside. "Come with me and we'll be safe," she said, opening another door which led to the front porch of a modest resort in the Colorado Rockies.

"What if the wolves follow us?" Paulh said nervously, glancing back at the doorway he had just come from.

"I've put in a call to the Forest Rangers," Little Mary said with a smile. "They know how to handle wolves. Now, just sit at the kitchen table while I bake 500 dozen cookies."

"I can't eat that many," Paulh said.

"You don't have to, silly," she replied, loading 200 pounds of flour into a huge commercial mixing bowl. "I inherited this resort from my father. I was shocked to learn that the place was about to be foreclosed on. I resolved to save it by raising money. Making cookies is my only salable skill, so I've been selling cookies door to door ever since."

"You'd have to sell a lot of cookies," Paulh said.

"The woodland creatures help me. The bunnies sell a lot of carrot cookies, the crows handle cornbread cookies, and the grizzlies deal with the honey cookies.

Paulh leaned over the edge of the mixing bowl, lost his balance and fell in....

Don't play with your food.

Maybe Paulh was trying to reach out to Pancho Vanilla.

He wanted to see if she was making carrot cookies so FPR could help deliver.

Fluffy Pink Rabbit might not deliver *all* the carrot cookies he's given. I expect that some would disappear en route.

Well, after all, I was there when you found him at the zoo next to Hershey Park

He claims that he was waiting for me, having been mailed from Boston because I wouldn't take him with me when I went to Pennsylvania. But then, 3/4 of the notions in his brain are nonsense, and the remaining 1/4 are plausible nonsense. One can only do so much when one's brain is polyester. But at least he has that excuse. I shudder to think what notions some American voters have .

I have only had carrot cake and that was delicious but I do like the sound of carrot and honey cookies. I once had a recipe for refrigerator cookies, where there was a basic dough recipe but with different added ingredients, i.e., chocolate chips, raisins, orange and lemon rind etc.

A lot of vegetables can be put into cakes and cookies. I've made carrot cake, zucchini cake, tomato soup cake, and baked bean cake. The first three were , but the last one was .

Well, of course it was--baked beans are just wrong

Admittedly they're an odd choice for cakes or cookies. However, I got the recipe from an otherwise reputable detective story.

I have a friend who makes brownies with black beans. They are interesting. And fiberous.

That sounds promising, I have to admit.
