A Conversation for David Icke

The Biggest Secret

I have skim-read The Biggest Secret (having previously done the same with one of his other books: The Robot's Rebellion) Of course, I am assuming your post was pre-Jon Ronson's Channel 4 series The Secret Rulers of the World which featured Icke as you will know if you saw it...

The big question about Icke is when he says lizards does he mean lizards or does he mean Jews? Then, in more general terms we have to ask "Is everyone who believes in any kind of conspiracy by an elite a nazi - which is the position of the anti-nazi lobby and many in the media and academia OR is the fact that anyone who believes in any kind of conspiracy - even Jewish people who believe in an anti-semitic conspiracy by non-Jewish nazis - is called a nazi an indicator that there may in fact be some kind of conspiracy and corollary disinformation programme.... smiley - smiley

Last week I attended a talk by Jon Ronson which was v entertaining and I've been reading his book Them since. My own 'book' published on my web-site at [URL removed by moderator] details how I was first introduced to the conspiracy theory and the Illuminati 15 years ago...

I have been reading The Biggest Secret and he has some very
unique theories in the book. The thing that I find interesting is that he does produce a lot of "evidence" for his theories. The book is very interesting reading although personally I don,t believe that what he has written is true. However the book is a very good read.
I remember about ten years ago David Icke gave a press conference where he first said that he was the son of God and he seemed to get ridiculed in the press and on television for this.
In fact I seem to remember David Icke being on television and on Radio after his son of God press conference and I think he was just invited on to these programmes so that people could laugh at him .He was invited onto these programmes as "the nutter with the crazy theory" which I think was a bit exploitative.
However I don,t believe his theories are true and I think a lot of the evidence he produces to support them is flawed. The book as I,ve said before is a very good read and well worth a look.

I'm reading the book at the moment. I have to say I find many of his ideas either absurd, dangerous, insane or libellous. Having said that, I think there IS some truth in the vicinity of his basic thesis about conspiracy and control. There is a lot that makes sense, but it is difficult to find amongst the dross.

We are not being controlled by lizards. We *are* being controlled by people; by politicians, by the media, by business/advertising. Definitely. But all his invasion from Mars, Lizards from the lower fourth dimension (what exactly IS the lower fourth dimension, anyway?) stuff is crap. The things he says about control via vaccinations is simply paranoid and potentially dangerous. Icke is clearly paranoid and has delusions of grandeur ("The Book That Will Change the World, my arse!).

I'm actually writing a book about conspiracy theory myself.

Yes I agree that many ofhis theories are absurd andcan,t possibly be true. What is interesting is the "mental gymnastics" that he performs to provide evidence forhis theories. In one part of the book he says that the roads around the White House in America when seen from the air look like the shape of an owl and that the owl in some cultures "or moloch" is a symbol of the devil and THEREFORE the American Government are satanists.Obviously this is quite bizarre and distorted thinking. However I found myself unable to put the book down and kept reading more.
Wasn,t David Icke a presenter on Grandstand in the eighties??
I seemto remember he was quite a decent bloke.

Red (and a bit grey) Dog

I believe that David Ickes career path has gone from Goalkeeper for Coventry City -> BBC Presenter -> Green Party spokesman -> Son of God -> Nutter.

I eagerly await the next installment.

Actually, you're right, I'm finding it unputdownable as well, but it's a case of "what insane nonsense is he going to come up with next?" - craziness sells books, I guess. I might even buy another of his books.

Yes, his chains of evidence are extremely tenuous. I don't think he has any grasp of the scientific method or even of logical thought processes. Much of what he obviously thinks is compelling evidence of something really isn't.

Yes, he was a Sports presenter, became (briefly) a green politician, and then announced he was the "Son of God" in 1992 I think it was. He predicted earthquakes, catastrophes and stuff that never happened back then. He's still doing that, but seems to have put a revised time-scale on things!
