Me Mum had been taken to the Hallamshire, and I got THAT phone call that said to get over on the very next flight.
Next two weeks were spent at the H, on bus or walking up West Street.
Sadly, me Mum passed on. Next two weeks were rather hectic too.
My Sister and I got into the habit of going for a very
or at some posh hotel bar next to town hall every evening after the H told us to go home.
We'd reminisce about growing up in the 50's in Sheffield...and of course how it's not like it used to be.
Then we'd try and remember what number bus would take us to Millhouses.
Came back again a year last November. Thought we had the house sold so had to clear everything out...no fun.
When it all got too much, we'd jump in the car and take off at speed for Higgar Tor near the Fox House and run around on the Moors till the wind had blown all our frustration away.
Right now, I'm in bloody florida, gutting the engine room of this boat :

...following a generator fire which managed to turn most of the boats wiring to toast.
Could be a few months of work.
cheers

Buccaneer was an infamous cellar bar on Leopold Street. Inside were like below decks on a pirate ship. It was THE place, good loud music and all sorts of draught beer.
Miners strikes were in
72...Joe Gormley .v. Edward Heath...(miners won)
74...Joe gormley .v. Edward Teeth again...(Teeth lost the election)
84...Arthur Scargill .v. Margaret Tha*cher...(miners got screwed)
