A Conversation for The Film that Moved You Most and Why

Breaking the Waves

Barnacle

For the trivia minded: for some years after the film was made, the graveyard (built for the occasion) remained by the lighthouse at Neist, on the Isle of Skye. After you walked down a few hundred steps, finding this graveyard was something of a surprise - particularly as one of the graves was rather ominously open. The gravestones were polystyrene castings, and a remarkably small set of names was used - IIRC only half a dozen different names. A sign on the gate told the story and reminded people it was only a film set.

Sadly, the area has since been developed as holiday accommodation and the graveyard has been removed.

Thanks for that bit of info. I love trivia like that. Whenever I travel, I make a point of finding out if any movies I like were filmed nearby. When I went to Arizona at Christmas to meet a friend's family, I took a side trip to the tiny town where part of "Near Dark" was filmed. Not much to see, but the thrill was knowing that one of my favourite movies had been filmed there.
