I hope this doesn't qualify as a work of fiction.

I'm not sure where it would fit into the guide either - Philosophy?

Dancing Ermine

Poignant, thought provoking, but still fiction. Sorry.

... I'm sure there used to be something in the guidelines saying that the Edited Guide wouldn't be accepting entries based written from the point of view of "little furry beings from Alpha Centauri"...

I'm no scout, but I seriously doubt this would be accepted. Don't give up writing entries but try sticking to objective truth as much as possible if you want it to go in the edited guide.

Mikey the Humming Mouse - A3938628 Learn More About the Edited Guide!

I would agree with the dancing ermine on all of these points.

I'm afraid they're right. This needs a whole lot of work before it might be considered for the Edited Guide.

It's a good effort though - Carl Sagan did something similar in his book 'Pale Blue Dot' looking at the earth with the Magellon (sp) spacecraft as it passed by Earth.

In his version, an extraterrestial intelligence might consider cars to be the dominant form of life on the planet and humans merely as parasites attacking this lifeform.

Don't stop writing, but perhaps you might want to read over the guidelines for writers and try again?

Cheers! smiley - ale

Hello,

Yes, as others have noted, fiction is not really appropriate for the Edited Guide. Think of the Edited Guide as an encyclopedia. There are lots of good things in a library (the Entire Guide if you will) that you just won't find in an encyclopedia. So don't take this point as a criticism of your work, please. You're just working in a different area. And your work definitely has a place in the Unedited Guide. smiley - smiley

Ah well.

I just like philosophising.

Hmm... now lets get all that lot down in factual form.

Btw, how do you like "like a gyroscope on L.S.D"?

I'm still not quite clear why the gyroscope took the LSD in the first place. smiley - winkeye

Seconded.

It's about time we create a philosopher's guide isn't it?

Could we have a section in the guide for fiction / theories / philosophy etc. Would be a nice idea and gives us creative people a chance to let of steam. A theory section would be good because it would give people a chance to offer theories and disprove others. The guide should be an encyclopedia, but with all that information people will want to offer up theories that couldn't trully be classed a 'fact'.
Just a thought.

There are actually *two* such places (but neither of them with an official tag):
