Safety pins?

Depending on the water where you live, putting safety pins in your washing machine can be a very bad idea as it will mark the socks where you have pinned them. Come to that, putting anything like that in your washing machine is a fairly bad idea anyway - if it comes undone and gets into the workings of the machine it will do it a lot of harm*. Better to get those plastic (non-metal) clothes pegs, or the plastic "sock tags" you can buy.
* I was told by a washing machine repairman that the biggest cause of damage to machines is escaped wires from underwired bras - they cause umpteen problems when they work their way loose and into the internal workings of the machine, which is a right pain. Not to mention the inconvenience of having only one wire in your bra.
