Traveller in Time not confused
"The 'Personal Space' of every account on any site looks the same. You have to go to their board and Sign in to it before yo ucan leave them a message.
Only question remains why should you? As you are unaware of the site they post on, what can be the very important message you have to give to them? "

Whisky Posted Jul 28, 2005
Plus of course the fact that messageboard users haven't actually got visible personal spaces - so if you manage to find one via hootoo and post to it you're going to confuse them completely when the message appears from nowhere!

Yes, it's really important that yAces *only* greet people through the h2g2 newusers page, with the site specific tick box checked so you're only approaching h2g2 members.
It's really confusing if you go and leave a hitchhiker message on the space of a messageboard user, or even worse on that of another 'full community' member.
The other sites editor's get rather irritated when their members are seemingly being 'poached' by h2g2 - and it is really confusing if you've joined something like filmnetwork to find an Ace greeting!

I'm not really here Posted Jul 29, 2005
I greeted a Collective member the other day. I had no idea he was on Collective, he'd been posting to h2g2 and had joined h2g2 clubs so I thought he was an h2g2 member - I'd found him through an h2g2 conversation so I thought I was doing the right thing. It did explain why an ACE had missed him though.
*please* can we have something to tell us when a Researcher is from another site?
As for Who's Online, I never seem to be on when the messageboards are open, so I keep missing these high numbers.

Traveller in Time something of a migration officer
"I think you were right to give the ACE greeting. If the Collective member did contribute to the Guide, in postings and or entries they are in fact a Researcher.
I did arrange a greeting to a POV member, who already had an Edited Entry. But I am always 'on the edge'. "

I only do it if I bump into them - in fact I only did it to this one because I thought he might be a returning Researcher - I could have sworn I used to know a Dr Gonzo...

Peta Posted Jul 29, 2005
Yes, I think there was a Dr Gonzo too.
I don't think anyone would be that upset if they've actually posted to h2g2, it's more of an issue when they'd have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

I think it was the 'Welcome to h2g2' subject title that Rowan wanted to clear up. I'll remember in future that if I do welcome anyone at all, I'll just say 'welcome to the site'. Can't go wrong with that.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who's going made about Dr Gonzo. I couldn't find the one I remembered when I searched.
