Quite simply a discursive critique of asian music industry's ghettoisation by mainstream music. Including quotes from the UK chart
director and various musicians in the asian industry.

Hi Omar!

Liked your article very informative, tho I'm not sure it is not edited guide material, tho I'm sure a scout will let you know for sure, the title needs some reworking to explain the article better - maybe something like "why british asian music won't get in the charts even if they outsell the spice girls" also I may have sped read the piece I'm not sure I understand what the word DESI means?

Also if you want to start a discussion on this try starting a conversation in Ask the community

Hey!

How to describe the word Desi? Well bhangra is a Punjabi sound and in Punjabi the Punjab and sometimes the entire sub-continent is described as Apna Dhes. Apna is an inclusive term for ours which leaves it open to the listener. Des is our homeland. So literallly Desi means of our homeland.

Living in a foereign country as a migrant from the dhes you still keep it close tgo yourself. Ppl in the dhes describe you as a Pardhesi. One who is for from the homeland.

Nice!

Thanks for the feedback, I'll look into a few changes.

You have a few typos and misspellings to catch, but this is a fine, news magazine type article.

Unfortunately, the guide is not a news magazine. The type of article that might work would be something that explains exactly what your style of music is, how it relates to traditional music of the culture, and how it relates to rock or whatever other popular music form it relates to. You might then cite some leading artists and add a brief section on how dificult it is for that music to get noticed in the British market place.

I'm not sure, though, that such an article could work without some sound clips to illustrate the distinctions.

Without that sort of approach, I'm not sure how you would modify this to make it acceptable as an edited guide entry.

I still think it's nice work.

Ooops, that posting obviously came from an other ego of mine, John Wayne Bossel II (always too quick at the trigger).

I thought you were happy with having the article featured by the Post. Ok, false assumption, and I should have asked (blame it on me, I'll take advantage of the h2g2 scapegoat service at A368057smiley - winkeye). IMHO you'll need to rewrite the article into a more neutral style to fit the Guidelines, and this has also been said by others. Therefore, my answer is: perhaps, provided you work at it.
