I believe the original recipe calls for mash and I prefer that but I can easily eat it with rice, pasta or bread

I have tried a vegan variety with lots of mushrooms which proves meat is not strictly necessary

I've always had it with pasta, flat noodles. But what I think of as stroganoff may not be what others think of.

When I was a kid, my mom made a cheap variation. I think it may have used a packet of powdered mix, but I know it contained hamburger meat/ground beef, sour cream, and catsup. Maybe that's all it was; ground beef, catsup, and sour cream. smiley - laugh

Now she has one of those insta-pots and she found a new recipe that's probably more authentic. It definitely doesn't feature catsup but does use cubed steak.

Regardless, I still like it with the flat noodles.

I'm very fond of those long flat Italian noodles called fettuccine with spinach in them. They go well with the sauce with smiley - tomatosmiley - tomatosmiley - tomato and ground beef and smiley - redwine and a lot of other stuff known as bolognese sauce outside Italy and covered in freshly ground Parmesan cheese smiley - drool

We don't use fettuccini. What I called "flat noodles" are called "wide egg noodles" on the package. They're about half an inch wide, maybe an inch and half to two inches long. They're not even really flat but have about a half to a full twist.

We have bought those noodles and others, from our nearby Chinese supermarket.. as they are in entirely plain see-through, packs, or packs with chinese script on, we have no idea what theyre called.. very good and cheap though..

They're a staple in all American groceries, right next to the macaroni and pasta cut into amusing shapes for the kiddos.

The ingredients also make them seem to be very akin to the Austrian/German Spätzle. Flour, eggs, water and salt. I mean what could possibly go wrong? Boiled bread dough, what's not to like?

Which is of course also the reason why it was more or less simulatenously invented all around the globe. Sometimes with rice flour instead of wheat, yes?

Anyway they make good an nutritious eating and while I love me a good potato I want variety.

It's mash tonight by the way smiley - drool

It's not just you. H2G2 has been jumbling special characters for a couple of months. The degree symbol now looks like °. The good news is that whenever the smiley - hamster gets it fixed, the scrambled characters will return to normal. At least they did briefly several weeks ago.

(And just to remind me how buggy this place is, I got a 'gateway timeout' when I tried to post this 5 minutes ago.)

I guess I should have said the degree sign also looks like that. I didn't realize it was the same jumbled characters.

I'm curious... what does it look like when I post those actual jumbled characters? The i with an umlaut, the Spanish upside down question mark before the sentence, and the 1/2 symbol.

Let's see -->

Post 52

I was hoping it would jumble all three characters, but I guess those still work.

Maybe means 42 in some arcane dialect?

Children are evil!
Trust me to have bought this house, a couple decades ago now, failing to notice the massive school at the top of the road..

No school near me, but lots of people throwing garbage from McD in my street.

Some are decent enough to use my bin which is parked right by the pavement, though.

Does gravity pull all the kids down the road towards you?

I happen to live in a dead end street, so the only kids I have to pacify are my own.

It's a dead end street for cars but not for people. And I live between the city center and McD so of course people go munching through my street leaving wrappers and paper cups along their way smiley - erm

Hansel and Gretel only left bread crumbs. And those were removed by birds ...

At least they didn't smash windows and set cars on fire... That is what happens every now and then two streets away from me (apparently that is the shortest route between McD and the shopping mall)
