2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side...

Ouch. seems four months enforced no gym-ing, means one looses a bit of fitness smiley - puff oddly, not much strength loss, just stamina smiley - puff have to actually book now, just to use gym, to keep number in gym down, as covid precaution. so... already booked in for tomorrow too.
Concentrating on weights for now, as we are still doing our 7 miles a day walking and will continue that on smiley - zensmiley - alesmiley - yawn

7 miles per day is pretty impressive smiley - wow

According to my phone i walk 1.9 miles per day on average. I may do better in future as I've recently got some new insoles. They seem to have taken away some of the soreness in my feet, legs and back. We'll see smiley - smiley

My feet have been getting pretty sore too! =- looking at my shoes.... I think I know why... it seems four months of 7 miles on average (we hit 10 once as our max day amount), has... wrecked both my everyday trainers/shoes, and virtually worn through my better (for the gym only) trainers, which I took to wearing for regular walking outdoors, when the first pair got really uncomfortable smiley - yikes - I might need to go shoe/trainer shopping smiley - groansmiley - wah

I am considering consulting an orthopedic shoemaker. I believe I have the age for it. Or rather: My body has. The question remains whether I also have the money for it smiley - erm

A friend of mine was on the other side of town* driving a friend to something and had some time to kill. Nearby was an orthopedic shoe store. He works on his feet (DeeJay... at a "gentlemen's club") and he's short 1½ toes. This little excursion cost him a few thousand dollars for the diagnosis and fitting, but he's VERY happy and now that he's had the fitting, new shoes won't be too expensive.

smiley - star (Almost forgot the footnote [pun intended]). Across town in Texas, Houston specifically can mean a 100 mile drive and is usually measured in hours.

Also getting fitted for new orthopedic (diabetic) shoes.

I'll be waiting for seasonal temperatures to drop to body temperature or lower (F108/C41 today) before attempting anything strenuous.

smiley - rofl I keep meaning to try some different 'off the shelf' inserts, to go in my gym trainers.... as my feet never seem comfortable enough with the ones they normally come with... Though often they're built into the trainers, and not changible smiley - doh although my feet have been more coorperative recently.... - I think its mainly an illusion that's somethings wrong with the fit/feel of shoes, as I've so much nerve damage in my feet from the chemotherapy drugs, I'm probably just not feeling 'right' smiley - huhsmiley - weird I useually end up over-compensating, and lacing too tight, and then find out I've even less feeling than useual left in my feet smiley - snork - of course I can't feel that I've laced them painfully too tight, often until after I then take them off again smiley - laugh - mind, the chemo-drugs have benefits too... - I no longer produce any scent to my sweat, including foot sweat, so my trainers always smell brand new smiley - huh even after years of use at the gym and walking smiley - puff I've lost count of how many hundreds of miles we walked over lockdown, it averaged 6-7 miles a day for err... must be over four months smiley - puff - I wrecked one pair of shoes from walking smiley - laugh - well they were not really proper walking shoes smiley - snork

well, gym is gradually getting easier... except... we are in a heat wave, here, 32, 33 Degrees C most days, and not cooler than 20-something at night smiley - puff - and the A/C at the gym is either broken or turned off for some reason smiley - shrug 'hot' doesn't cover it... - I've had to stop cardio workouts, its just too hot, so just been lifting weights smiley - zen and that is getting a lot easier again even with the heat smiley - puff

Back in, what was it? The forties or fifties? maybe as late as the early sixties, some shoe stores used a "high tech" method of sizing children's feet... They used X-rays. They had machines in the stores that used X-ray flouroscopes to show kids feet with live wiggling toes in their new shoes to show how well they fit.

Ah, Wikiwottsit tells me these were still in use when I was a kid ('70s). I think I remember seeing one that wasn't working. I do remember using an automated version of the standard foot sizing tool. This one I stood in two boxes where the walls would move in to fit my foot. Unnecessary electromagnetical devices are still so much better than gratuitously irradiating children's feet.

I missed out on those too! smiley - wah thesedays my feet need measuring each time, as their size seems to alter so much smiley - huh - or, rather, as stores don't seem to have measuring devices anymore, I have to start at a 'guess' size, and work up and down, depending on fit.... - I guess its more likely that its not my feet changing up/down 1 or 2 shoe sizes, and rather the quality control over sizing, in manufacturing, is virtually abscent, as I've varied from an 8 1/4, up to a 10 recently (uk sizes) despite normally being a size 9, since I was 16 years old, with no variation smiley - huh Mind, having said that, my hiking boots I bought when 15 or 16, are now too loose on me... - mind that might be partly due to wearing non--hiking socks thesedays smiley - erm I hate wearing shoes, I'd be barefoot all the time If I was able too smiley - wah - I keep meaning to think about trying some of these 'barefoot' shoes, but they do seem expensive and I guess sizing them correctly is a nightmare smiley - wah

another 45 minutes in the gym, earlier, all on the bosu, mostly with two legs/feet contacting it, occasionally just one, and all with the 20KG barbell bar smiley - puff squats, curls, reverse grip curls, tricep curls, shoulder press, upright and bentover row, and overhead tricep and bicep whatever-they're-called things smiley - ermsmiley - puff

got home before thunderstorm struck smiley - bigeyes with seriously heavy rain smiley - yikes
