You're poems were great. You're obviously quite disillusioned by the state of play over there. I'm from England and I don't consider us being any better off with Blair witch project at the helm. By the way, have you got any sugar?

Suger... *glances around* I donno... can never find anything around here... my mind's so cluttered.... and if you'll forgive me for being uninformed as to what's happening outside of the US... "...and I don't consider us being any better off with Blair witch project at the helm." Blair witch project? I know of the movie, but didn't see it... not sure as to who you are making refference to. That's what I get for being here in the states.... our media doesn't consider anywhere outside of the US that's isn't currently in a state of termoil, or making threats, of much importance.... *sigh* Land of the free! Ha! How about the land of the free to be a stupid idiot? Ah well, I guess I'll manage to live.... I do have a house over my head, food to eat, and a computer to play on, so I'm doing pretty damn good, better than a lot of this planet's population, I should learn to appriciate it more...

Well, anyhow... thank you for the feed back (and positive too! smiley - smiley) on my poetry. Do you mind if I ask what brought you wandering by? I love getting visitors, and I love it even more when I know where they're coming from. Well, looking forward to more conversation!

Hi Saturn Girl from the US of the A. smiley - star///

Let me formally introduce myself. I'm Zaphod (two heads are better than one & all that). I just hit town and was busy making a cuppasmiley - coffeebyn the campfire when I realised I was out of certain supplies. So I landed on your site in the hope you could oblige. Ah well, I had to have it withoutin the end.
Now about this Blair character, I don't know if you watch the news over there but we have a certain prime minister (or at least someone who masquerades as a leader) by the name of Tony Blair. His catchword is . . . . . . EDUCATION! EDUCATION! EDUCATION! . . . . . . . . .
He thinks he's some kind of demi-god come to save our skins. In fact, he's a spineliness hypocrite who hasn't got the bottle to ban fox hunting, even though the majority of people in this country think it's barbaric. He represents the Labour Party (the equivalent to your Democrats), or rather as they call themselves NEW LABOUR (which used to be a socialist movement only it's become a dirty word in Britain). It's true, we have become a satellite state of your country. How does a joker like Bush get into office? No offence, but he's not exactly human, is he? that said, I don't think he'll be putting cigars where he shouldn't. By the way, there's a general election coming up in a few weeks time and the general level of apathy is staggering. All the spin and talk is focused on European issues. Boring or what? I tell you, you could lose the will to live waiting for "REAL" change to happen.
I work in the Health Service and the gap between rhetoric and reality beggers belief. The government want to give the impression everything's rosy in the garden when all the time we're saddled with re-organisation after re-organisation after re-organisation, each one promising the perfect solution and utopia (which, incidentally, means "nowhere"). In other words, Spin Doctors create the illusion of progress when in fact we're going nowhere fast.
I've been watching a series on TV about "Conspiracy Theories" - including David Icke and his notion of an elite world order who are Lizards from another dimension in time. Does this stuff interest you or do you consider it a bit crackpot and far-fetched? He reckons Bush is one of them.
Well, Saturn Girl smiley - planet I must dash off. Hope to talk soon.

PS in the meantime, give that house of yours a good tidying up.

Hi Saturn Girl smiley - planet from the US of the A. smiley - starsmiley - star//////
Zaphod here again smiley - cdouble(two heads are better than one).

As you see, my response to your last letter has gone to the Moderator for scrutinisation, presumambly because its contents were politically sensitive, though no reason for its removal has been given. Notoreity at last. It must have something to do with there being an election looming and people being twitchy. It's not that I'm an anarchist smiley - steam and I don't think my comments about our prime minister (and while I think of it, your president) were too inflammatory or heretical. And there we were thinking it was a democracy, free speech and all.
Pity really, 'cos I took alot of trouble composing the letter, and putting in various bits and pieces of interest.
Anyway, until they reach a decision, I'm writing this instead.
I'm trying to remember the gist of the letter now. Ah yes, our prime minister is called Tony Blair, a very nice chap doing a good job in
difficult circumstances. He is head of the Labour Party (called New Labour) which is the equivalent to your Democrats I believe. So you see the connection, can you? Better change the subject, otherwise they'll have this one in the waste basket.

In the end I had to have my cuppa without sugar. And boy do I drink alot of tea! smiley - coffee (yes, I know it's coffeee, but there's no symbol for tea). I dropped by on your site by chance, where a posting on life in the USA caught my attention. You're the first contact I've had on the internet with someone outside these fair Isles of ours. By the way, what is the time difference between us? I think it must be somewhere in the region of 8 hours. If you visit my site then you'll know a little bit more about me. I'm still trying to find my feet on this site and get my head around what's happening. I love the great outdoors so I thought I'd pitch camp away from the madding crowd for the time being. If it's good, I might even stay a while in this virtual place.

Written any more poetry?

Be in touch soon.

PS I've now run out of milk would you believe.

Well, the evil Vogons released their hold on your first reply, and I just read through it. I was rather annoyed with them when I got on-line yesterday, and found your reply pending moderation! smiley - sadface Nasty b*****s, these Vogons!

I'll probably have to keep this responce short, (and sweet?) because I'm going to be needing to leave for work in a little bit. They drug me out of bed at 8 in the morning (well, that was when I was supos'ta be there, but I was so tired I didn't get out of bed 'til then!) and now I have to go back pretty soon, needing to be there at 3 this time... and I get to stick around late tonight, we're doing inventory! smiley - sadface estimation of completion is around 11 pm... but there is a chance that it'll take longer! I am not looking forward to this.Well, at least I get monday off this week, so I don't have to get up for school on monday morning, and be getting out of bed for a 7:30 start... *shrugs* Anyhow... the reminder I set on ICQ to get me moving and getting ready soon enough I won't be late, just went off... I must be going. I promise I'll give a longer, and better responce next time I'm on-line. Bye!

Hi! Now for that more thorough responce I promised you...

Labour Party equivelent to the Democrats? I donno about that... from what you're telling me about this Blair witch character, he seems more like a spineless republican, kinda like Bush. The Democrats would ban fox hunting if that's what most of the country wanted... the only time they're iffy about stuff like that, is when they're up for reelection, and most of the country doesn't back whatever it is that's being questioned, and possibly going to have something done about it.

How'd New Labour, being related to the socialist movement, become a bad word in Britian? It's actually a better system an Captialism, if only humans could pull it off right (something that's yet to be done... all they've managed is dictatorships masquerading as socialism and/or communism) I guess it's because so many humans are afraid of having to give up their social standings that they worked so hard at stepping on people to get... Since it's usually those with the greater needs that get the most, and can't contribute as much as the average person. *shrugs* For that reason, it's hard to get something like that working in a world like this. And as much as I'll admit it's a good idea, I don't think I'd be rushing to give up my computer, good clothes, car, and everything to join in that band wagon.

Now, don't you dare insult jokers by calling Bush one! He looks like a chimp, but even that's an insult to chimps! The reason that idiot's currently the president of the USA is because of the electorial college that's long outlived it's use. That system was set up when the US set up the consitution to make sure that the election of the president was a fair thing. Then we didn't have the mass media, and the presidential canidates couldn't campain all around the country, and get themselves familiar to all the voting citizens. So they set this up to try to make electing the president fair, since most people would vote for the canidate that was local, since they most likely didn't know anyone else. Now that canidates can campain all across the country, by flying here and there, running ads on TV, mailing pamplets, flyers, and such to every mail box in the country, the safe guard that was set up is totally out dated, and useless, but since the USA is slow to change, we just got royally f**ked. The Popular vote elected Gore, but the electorial college said Bush won.... If we had gotten rid of the electorial college (and maybe we have half a chance of that, now that the Democrates have control of the Senate again! woohoo!) we wouldn't be in a fix like this, with such an idiot driving the bus called American straight to h**l. I hope that no one in this country will be stupid enough to re-elect him for the next term.

As for utopias... I happen to like that word. It's one of the most accurate words I know of. Most people think that utopia means a perfect society, which it has some connotations of that, but since it means nowhere (which I already knew, due to my Sci-fi lit class, one of the best english literature classes I've taken) in a whole utopia means a perfect society which will never happen anywhere. I also happen to think dystopia is a word that can fit most of the larger, and more powerful nations in the world. We all claim to be the best, perfect, and all that stuff, but in fact we're all totally messed up, corrupt, and basically a dystopia.

Conspericy theories can be interesting... but I don't know about lizards from another dimension in time.... I do believe that each and every decision we make, there is somewhere in some other dimension all the other choices being played out too. There may be a dimension where the lizards are in charge, though I doubt they've had contact with this one, or that Bush is one of them... I think lizards are much smarter than Bush, and there's no need to insult the lizards like that! The conspericy theories I'm interested in (and will probably be my downfall if I follow them too much) is the whole thing with the US government knowing more than they want to admit about extraterestrials.... *shrugs* I'm sure they have a deal with all the teasers who make a run on the planet. They act like the teasers weren't there, and the teasers don't mess with the government's control over the people. (Well, it's really the governments though of control over people, but we'll try to let them keep their illusions, so they don't come out, and try to conquer us again!) Oh well, whatever.

Well, I think the time difference between here and there is in the neighbor hood of 8 hours... You're on Greenwich mean time, aren't you?

I've written more poetry. Check it out at Saturn Girl [dot] net and please excuse the banners, they aren't supossed to be there, but I have not had time to yell at the people hosting my site to get them off.... I'm paying for hosting, and someone made a mistake or something, so I have banners on my site, totally messing up the whole look, since they put the banners on everything! grrr... stupid b*****ds! Oh well, I'll take care of it soon enough, I'm sure... almost out of school, so I should have time to yell at them soon.

I think that's enough babbling for now... I'll wrap it up, and let you feel free to respond how you wish!

Hi again! smiley - planetLooking at time of your last message, you must have posted shortly after I logged off.
You certainly keep your promises and I appreciate the time you devoted to composing such an exhaustive and interesting response. You have some strong feelings over the political situation over there, as well as a strong sense of justice.
As you see, they finally re-instated my contoversial piece with no amendments. Surprising, eh? Now I've some idea where the boundaries lay, though I guess this could change.
Certainly, people holding on to what they've got epitomises nature's conservatism, but I too wouldn't want to relinquish my material belongings. To my mind, the demise of socialism and collective ownership of goods and production is anathema to a capitalist system. It just seems we've swung from one extreme to another, with individual interest supplanting social and collective responsibility (ergo a culture of blame, cult of personality, etc.) There is in the UK, as in the USA, a burgeoning underclass which is deliberately maintained as a political devise for ensuring conformity to the status quo. The "underclass" serves as a deterrent and stark reminder to the privileged "haves" of what might happen if they let slip of their position and lifestyle. Prozac, and the like, is what keeps the social masses afloat, and keeps the wheels of capitalism turning. The alternative, of dropping out or falling down is too gruesome a prospect for the majority. The capitalist mantra is "keep going at all costs" but the higher up the ladder one goes, the bigger the fall and fear is the key to hanging on. But the big question is whether havbing more possessions fulfils and enriches our lives?
By the way, what are "teasers?" And what is the essential differences between democrats and Republicans? I'm a bit hazy on that one.
I agree entirely with the parallel universe theory, that repressed contents are lived out in multi-dimensional planes of existence. I also believe that what we repress, returns in distorted, exaggerated, even destructive ways until they are integrated into consciousness. These unacknowledged contents then appear on the outside as fate (perceived as bad luck or accidents).
I searched "Saturn Girl" on the web to check out the poetry and found alot of sites related to famous female artistes. For instance, KD Lang and Paula Cole. Is there any connection?
My musical tastes are varied - including Irish folk, Peter Gabriel, Pink Floyd, REM, Gong, Bakka and many others besides.
I'm off to a music festival in Dorset in a few weeks time with over 100 bands. We've had an epidemic of "Foot and Mouth" disease (affectinng cloven animals)in the UK for last 4/5 months and many have been cancelled. So it's out with the "hippy" clothes and beads again.
Well, I'm off for some grub, nosh or whatever the slang is over there.
Yes, I prefer an organised mess and tidying up just confuses the hell out of me. Mind you I like the ocassional clear out, "Car Boot sales" being the ideal outlet.

Well, like you, I do bash on a bit. Brevity was never my strong point.
So long and thanks for the milk. can I keep the cow?
Cheers smiley - ale or smiley - bubbly or do you prefer smiley - stiffdrink

I was more than happy to provide you with a longer responce... I'm quite oppinionated, and I take any and all opportunities to share all my oppinions. I wonder what flagged them down to "moderate" (read that as attempted murder) you piece, but upon closer inspection (and probably a lot of hmmmin' and hawin') caused them to leave it alone after all? Who knows what goes through the Vogons' minds....

You call yourself Zaphod, and you don't know what a teaser is? How long has it been since you read The Guide? *shakes head* Let me quote.... " 'A teaser? Teasers are usually rich kids with nothing to do. They cruise around looking for planets that haven't made interstellar contact yet and buzz them.' 'Buzz them?' ... 'Yeah,' said Ford, 'they buzz them. They find some isolated spot with very few people around, then land by some poor unsuspecting soul whom no one's ever going to believe and then strut up and down in front of them wearing silly antennas on their head and making beep beep noises. (39)" The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide complete and unabridged.

As for Republicans v. Democrats, it's basically different ends of the political spectrum. (I'm not sure what you already know, or how many of the terms I'll use you'll know, so I'll just explain it as thoroughly as I can, and you can scan pass what you already know). The political spectrum goes from right wing extremist, also known as a Reactionary (those who are stuck to the old ways, and the most stubborn about change, wanting to only go back to older more conservative ways) to the left wing extremists also known as Radicals (those who want change, want it yesterday, and want it drastically). Between that are the liberals (to the left, but not quite radical) which is where most democrats fall, moderate (in the middle), and Conservative (to the right, but not quite reactionary) which is where most Republicans fall. Democrats usually want to work towards change slowly, and use what systems are already in use to get there. Republicans usually are stubborn, and do not support change.

I don't think there are any connections with the people you listed, I'm not much for reading poetry, I like to write it more than I do read it. But I had given you my URL to my web site, changing the . in it to [dot] so to not attract attention of the Vogons so easily and end up with a URL removed by moderator scaring my post. [URL Removed by Moderator] is my site and you'll find my poetry in the writing section, just please be forgiving of the banner mess, 'cause I haven't been able to yell at the right athorities to get it cleared up.

I listen to mostly 50's, 60's and 70's Rock'n'Roll, Folk Rock, and such... I'm a big fan of the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and a lot of the other groups we in the states call part of the british invasion. I also enjoy Big Band/Swing music, that's always nice to listen to... and I'm also starting to listen to music by someone called Lorena McKennit (or something like that, I'd have to go look for the CD, and that would take me a few minutes... *shrugs*).

Right now, I'm not looking forward to having to address Graduation announcements... but I need to have them out this week... *sigh* and I have to go to work in a little bit... *sigh* I'm starting to get annoyed with my senior year of high school.... I've also got a project due in Sci-fi lit class (well, actually fantasy lit, this semester, but the school's stupid and calls both semesters Sci-fi) so I have to go out and dig up a couple of Conan the Barbarian books, *shudder* then I have to go find my copies of Chicks in Chain mail, and Did You Say Chicks?! Then I'm going to conpare, and contrast them, and show the difference between fill in the blanks garbage swords and sorcery fiction, and good swords and sorcery fiction.

smiley - planet Saturn Girl smiley - planet

ps. I happen to like the cow... but I might be willing to part with her if you give me something worth it, and you promise she won't get any of that dreadful foot and mouth disease.

pps. I don't care for smiley - ale, smiley - bubbly or a smiley - stiffdrink, but maybe a smiley - choc instead would be nice smiley - smiley

I happen to have a leather bound trilogy of five parts. It's really nice, black cover with gold toned lettering, and stuff, and a black ribbon bookmark, and gold toned page edges. Really really nice stuff. That's my one and only copy of the guide I've ever known. I ask for the book for my birthday a couple years ago, and my dad goes out and gets the really nice copy for me smiley - smiley Now if only they'll come out with the guide as it should be, with the nice big "Don't Panic!" on the front smiley - smiley

With Inventories, and Graduation... I'm currently in my last year of high school, and I have a job where we had to do an inventory last weekend. And I really hate all the little parts we happen to sell. I work for Radio Shack, so we have all these little bits, and pieces people can put together to make their cables, connections, and computer things. If I do grow these things, I won't be waking any Giants... I'll contract someone else to go hunt around for me, and scout out the place first. Hmmm... By the way, I've hard that drink you mentioned was dynamite! The alcoholic equivalent of a mugging: takes all yer money and leaves yer with a headache. I prefer the wine gum version.

smiley - smiley I am the bombshell goddess, I always drive a hard bargain, and I will win what I want, even if it means tempoarily loosing. (I know how to do that right smiley - tongueout)

You start ASAP, I'll toss the beans into the dirt tonight, you can climb tomorrow. I suggest the smiley - spider costume, if it comes with the webbing to help you climb better. Is it a smiley - spiderman costume, or just a smiley - spider costume?

*suddenly decides to get weird (it's about 11:30 here, I haven't been up this late lately, too much to do, too little time, and not enough sleep! smiley - sadface) and starts with a bad impression* Your mission, should you choose to get paid, then robbed by two Pan Galactic Gurgle Blasters afterwards, is to climb the bean stalk. You will then wander around quietly stealing from the big bad giant up there, not getting caught while doing so. Should the giant turn out to be nice, leave all treasures, and tell him/her/it about your dying grandmother who needs lots of shiny golden things, and cry a lot, you'll get all the gold you, and it can carry. You will be accompanied by a small white mouse who is currently bitter because the universe is no longer willing to pay to hear what the question to THE ANSWER to life, universe, and everything, etc... anymore, having grown board, and not wanting to believe that a planet that is said to be mostly harmless could produce something as importaint as the question to the answer to everything. Should you have to feed the giant the line about your dying grandmother, send the mouse down to warn me, and I'll act the part of your grandmother when you bring the giant down the coco bean stalk with all that gold. Once it's returned to it's home, we'll chop down the bean stalk, and be home free. If you do an especially good job, I'll give you 25%, the mouse will get 25%, and I will get the remaining 50% (since these are my beans, ya know!) After this has been done, we'll pick a bean from the stalk, and feed it to the cow, and make a chocolate milk cow. The message will turn into a bean stalk, and grow all the way up at the clouds by midnight, please be sure to get it well away from the house, as this is a heirloom quality house, and I would like my children to be able to inheirit it from me later on.

Whatever you want to do, as long as I get rich off of it, these being my beans after all. Though if they don't grow... I'm gonna sue for damages, my $ back, and you won't get your pan glactic gargle blasters! Oh, and I'll want my cow back too if this doesn't work.

Be careful of the giant, and make sure you get everything that isn't bolted down up there, especially if this is a mean giant you deal with.

Hi again SG.
False alarm just before. No bean stalk yet. Stroke and smiley - tickle sweet, cuddly Coco smiley - blackcat for me. I'm a smiley - cat luvverm too, got a few of them in fact. Hang on, aren't these coco beans you gave me? No, you haven't have you?
Now I'm getting nervous smiley - yikes with all this talk of mean giants. He (are they all male??) could be a big pussy cat (in which case, the mouse ain't safe!). On the other hand, it could be a real, nasty smiley - monster with large fangs and a horrible attitude. I'm wondering now if I should sub-contract the job. Us dwarf elastaplasts are also not very good at handling heights. We come from a smiley - planet with a large gravitational pull, making us very squat and vertically-challenged.
smiley - spider's from Mars, indeed.
Have you found the smiley - choc lover's fan club on h2g2 yet? yer eyes lit up then, didn't they? check it out on site A424522smiley - tongueout. I did.
Well, bombshelly, I'm off to rob a bank instead. At least I'll only have to wear a mask. BFN.

Bombshelly? Ummm... I'll thank you very much to not call me THAT of all things. Sheesh, it sounds stupid (no offence if you didn't think it did) If you subcontract the job out, you can't expect any more pay from me... though I'm sure you can find plenty of people who'll do it just for the pan galactic gargle blaster alone. But also the people who'll do it for that usually aren't the type you'd trust to get all the gold and stuff out, and if they do manage that, they usually won't fork it over for good, they'll steal it back after they get over the mugging the pggb gave 'em. Not a hot idea... I'm sure you'll have no trouble with the giant, you do have two heads, then the mouse to help you. The mean ones are usually stupid, and easily tricked. The nice ones are the smart ones, and will most likely fall for the sick grandmother trick. And all you have to do about the hights thing is don't look down. You can't tell the difference between miles and miles above the gound, and right next to it if you don't look down. Good luck on the mission, I think the bean stalk has taken sprout.
