...please do not neglect h2g2. The best way we can honour Douglas' memory is to make this site everything he dreamed it would be. Let's pull together and make it happen.

Dr E Vibenstein (You know it is, it really is.)

Exactly. The best way to honour Douglas would be for the h2g2 community to now stop bickering about perceived "censorship" and get on with making his vision a reality. Thanks, rant over.

Clive the flying ostrich: Amateur Polymath | Chief Heretic.

I was deeply shocked to hear the sad news about Douglas's sudden death, but I am in some measure comforted to know that this site will live on as a part of the legacy of the works he produced in his lifetime. I am proud to be a part of that and can think of no better way to honour his memory than to re-affirm my own commitment to The Guide.

Clive.

Ain't that the truth. We need to take this thing forward, so the next time I'm in a pub, or a restaurant, or where-ever I'm going to be thinking 'I must write about this...'.

We who are left should carry DNA's vision forward...I'll miss him, though I never knew him.

Lux Rothchop (wouldn't it be great if people were nice to each other for a change?)

Part of me wants to go and write an article about something or other as an expression of support. Then again, maybe it would be more fitting to go to a bar somewhere and spend ages talking about an article I intend to get round to some day.

Thing is, DNA's last-minute panic-written material produced just before (or else simultaneously with) the deadline was often a work of genius. I'm not sure I can reproduce that part of the trick.

It's strange but GB stunned me with the news this morning, and several hours later I decided to come along and pay my respects only to find that I've followed her here!

I agree entirely with all the above - and life's too short to spend sniping about whether you can swear in the postings or not.

This is a superb community - let's all get on and help build it into something DNA would have been proud of.

I just can't believe it. He can't just DIE, can he?

Oh my god.. (yeah, as you can see I was told quite recently. A friend of me decided to get me drunk before telling me the truth very gently... but I am still shocked to hear it)

but what can I say.. let the page live on.

In my opinion it would be a great idea if h2g2 were to write a guide entry on Douglas Adams. A sort of university project, but where everyone joined in.

Absolutely, we should all mourn the loss of an amazing man
and ensure he is not forgotten. Anybody who tries to turn this
situation into a political despute is missing the point
of what is supposed to be going on here, and undermining the
great mans work and ideas.

Life without h2g2 is unthinkable.
We must continue to build the Guide as a fitting tribute to DNA's memory.

'life without h2g2'? utterly impossible. A dull, grey, boring existence, perhaps, but certainly not life.

Finding this site was the one of the best things to happen in my life, and has motivated me like I never believed possible. Every morning my first thought goes something like, 'I wonder if an idea for a Guide article will present itself today?'

Sure, we may indulge in petty bickering from time to time. Where would we be without a petty bicker or two? If we can only emulate that sublime sense of the ridiculous that DNA had, and not take ourselves too seriously...

DNA will never be forgotten, and h2g2 will not only survive, but will flourish and grow with the nurturing care of all the researchers.

The flame of h2g2 lives on, and the spark that lit that flame has now become a smiley - star
