In Search of Lost Heroes

I was in class this morning and we were doing another boring group project, we had done so I was being nosie and looked at one of the other groups and I saw Calvin and Hobbes taking a major part of their A3 mood board. this got me thinking about how much I love that comic and how much I wanted to read them all again, but time is limited at the moment so I settled for putting some clips into my design scrapbook.

But that wasn't quite enough for me so I did a search for Bill Waterson himself, I didn't find him, he is too reclusive to be found that easily but I did find an interview with his mom, not that she will reveal anything about him except that he has been drawing a long time. I can understand not wanting to be in the public eye but I never knew someone that produced something so famous to not even have a single photograph of him in the public domain.

Lorelei Ga'fen - Jedi;Lori Pendragon - theif,assassin,& witch - see Brokeback Mountain!4 Baftas!

Maybe he isn't real.Maybe it's a pen-name(can't remember how to spell the fancy word).Maybe the real person hired someone to pretend to be Bill Waterson's mom,and to say very little at all...they could even be a girl...

Hey,it could happen.

I've been watching too many made-for-TV movies,haven't I?

No as his parents are quite well known in their community...

I know about pseudonyms, but as he has parents and friends of the family know about Bill then it is very unlikely.

He just doesn't want hundreds of fans annoying him I guess, as lots of them got real mad when he quit 10 years ago. Calvin and Hobbes was definately better than garfied in my opinion anyways, garfield just seems to be the same thing again and again now. I do admire Bill Waterson for not giving in to commericalism though!

I hear he lives up near Parma Ohio now- the whole town's in on his secret, whoever he is.

I miss him.

It must kill him to see those unauthorized decals of Calvin pi$$ing on a Ford/Chevy/Dodge logo.

smiley - erm I haven't seen them...

but his mom did say that the only thing he liked Calvin and hobbes in was the books as he didn't see them as anything but books. I know that was one of the things he used to protest about people wanting to make toys and movies and animations and stuff

Sounds a bit like JD Salinger too me,since I've all the background work I can about the guy since we're doing "The Catcher in the Rye" for English this year.We even watched a film on his life, the old recluse that he is.Can't really blame him though, the attention he got.
