A Conversation for Talking Point: h2g2's move to the BBC

What do I think of the move to the Beeb? Well actually I think it's quite alrighty. In essence we've got the same system. Yesm, one or two restrictions but nothing too draconian.
Thus far changes I have noticed:
- change of login id - a one-off expense.
- moderation - not really a disaster for those who are mature enough already (include myself there!). Of course this depends on your level, for example I was surprised to see a**e moderated, but I guess it's understandable. Be interesting to see what happens should someone decide to write an entry on profanity!
- loss of URLs from convo's - bit of a bummer this one, as they can assist in people's Guide entries. Now we have to say things like I'm sure "if you look up "Open sewer discharge systems" in your fave search engine you'll find more info about them" rather than
[URL removed by moderator]
(BTW this URL doesn't exist).
- no link to PeerReview - hopefully the cat behind the doors will be changed after a few months, once it's no longer new.
Overall, it's same old, same old to my eyes.

Did anyone else run into the problem of their personal pages (and all related conversations, links to entries) being obliterated? Or did I just register wrong?

Where have all my old conversations gone?
I have back my old page and my old intro but no old conversations.
Only the last 3 remain.

Hello, everyone All stuff has to be moderated now, so the moderators are working through everything onsite. So anything written now is moderated, and in slack times the backlog of all old conversations etc. are worked through - starting with the most recent and working back. I hope this helps you, and everything will come back - honest Until later...

Hey Cenchrea I am not sure what happened to you. You may want to try logging out and then re-registering. If this doesn't work then we will go and talk to TPTB, they should be able to sort this, one way or another Hope this helps and until later....

Ha, ha, ha. I just had to laugh to see that the example URL I had used in my original discussion get removed even though I clearly stated it was made up. I thought it would be pretty unlikely that anyone would set up a site with such a specific and long address (".open-sewer-discharge-systems." as the middle bit). Maybe it really does exist and I should have checked first!
I was just about to suggest that maybe moderation is an automated process, as I would have thought common sense would otherwise have prevailed, but then I noticed that more than just the URL had been removed because it should have ended up as "try [URL removed by moderator]".
Oh well no harm done. At least I'm keeping someone in a job!!
"Weekly status report"
This past week I have removed 98 URLs from conversations and corrected 500 profanities. A breakdown of my daily correction statistics is included below.

Convo forum removed. Broke the house rules. Use of an obscenity.
Maybe we can start a new game here .....

YO, everyone with pre-BBC entries marked "hidden pending moderation:"
Old pages and new posts do not have to remain hidden until they are finished moderating. If anyone has old guide entries that pre-date BBC, they can be brought into view by going to clicking on "My Space," choosing the entry you want and clicking "edit," then hitting "update" on that entry. It should become visible to you and everyone, and will theoretically be reviewed in an hour by the moderators (or The Vogons or The M********s as they may end up getting refered to). This should be faster than letting your old entries languish in the backlog of old stuff that moderators have assigned a lower priority.
