2. Scotish Highlands
3. New Zealand

Probably reveals a lot of my personality with these lists.

Thanks for the congrats smiley - bubbly. The emoticons are easy peasy to do - for postings you do a brackets like this <> and in between them put smiley, ale, stiffdrink, biggrin, blush, blue, etc, etc. Theres a good smiley page where they're all on (A155909).

Yes definately - the personality test would be a good thing .... yes I see Imal (leans back in chair and steeples hands), have you ever considered that you may be possibly affected by (long german word).

Uluru - beautiful spot more commonly known as Ayers Rock. Uluru is the aboriginal word for the place and it's more respectful to use that these days than the former name.

Gald you worked out the smileys smiley - biggrin I like to be an smiley - angel sometimes - it offsets the times I`m a little smiley - devil

Hmmmm -

Christopher Tolkien = bit sad.
Christopher Tolkien = desperately needs to get a proper job.
Christopher Tolkien = lives up to being a Christopher.
Christopher Tolkien = pushing his luck further than he ought to.

At least thats my opinion. Actually I do owe him some thanks for writing Unfinished Tales. This book is definately worth a read for the Narn I Hin Hurin (Tales of the Children of Hurin), the story of the Battle of the Gladden fields and the loss of the One Ring by Isildur, the history of Celeborn and Galadriel etc, etc. I ended up being bored stupid by Lost Tales (I have Vols I and II) except for the account of the fall of Goldolin - really excellent story of Ecthelion of the Fountain's fight against the Balrog.

Did I ever mention that I like the Silmarillion better than the LOTR ?

Poor christopher hahaha...I liked unfinished tales as well...Ehh..he and frank herbert's(DUNE) son should get together and write a book about "How to make money off of your father's brilliance". i'm sure bantam books would bite on that one.

OOoh anywho, no i dont think you mentioned that you liked Silmarillion better. I dig it a lot. There are many splended quotes that float around in my head from that one..."Many are the strange chances of the world" (i bought a used copy of the book and that fabulous quote was underlined in red by some bloke who obviously dug it as well)

Hmm...I still prefer the LOTR as a whole to any of the books others. As i read it more and more connections start to fit, and litle sparks go flying around my head from previous relations that i hadnt recognized. It seems that happens every time i reread. Though...I can't read the felloship right now because a "friend" borrowed it (extended borrow like a year ago) and never returned it. I'm going to assume its a POW MIA now and just buy another one now. I can't take being without it. Aghh...

There`s a whole conversation waiting out there for everyone on where all the borrowed books go to. One of the best things about LOTR is the tales of the years at the end. The first version I had was a cheapo edition without the appendices - it wasn`t for a couple of years after first reading that I discovered that they existed - felt a bit dumb and elated at the same time !

I think it`s the glimpses of hidden stories and vistas in Tolkien that really grab my imagination.

OK what`s your fave JRR character. Here's my list ....

1. Fingolfin the High King - never to be topped. Brave, honourable. The very best of the Noldor.
2. Fingon
3. Gil-galad
4. Ecthelion - he who slew the Balrog.

Hmmm - all Noldorian elves (and very revealing about myself I suspect).

From LOTR it`s Theoden or Faramir for me.

All those lost books arg...(never let anyone borrow a book unless you don't want it back) Actually i have comandeered a few myself...so I spose it all comes out even.

My favorite JRR characters hmm hmm hmm...

ooooh there are so many, and...OH!!!

1. GOLLUM...Smeagol loves his precious...(ooh i just have a great sort of cuddly affinity for the slimy lil fellow)

2. Treebeard

3. Hmm one of my favorite Unfinished tales, and it's characters is that of Aldarion and Erendis, it's one of the more colorfully included "lovestories" that Tolkien brought out. ( i usually don't dig that either!!!)

4. Shadowfax- Gandalf's trusy steed!

oh but there are more...more more...I do love the Lady Galardriel, and Gandalf ofcourse and Elrond!, Aragorn Strider! And Arwen! hmm...anyone from Dunedain! ahahah it's so hard to choose...ooooh my and Wormtongue...all the names are flooding back to me...Malkor! Gloin!

Perhaps i need to rethink this...

Hmmm .... it`s hard not to list them all isn't it. I also like some of the minor characters like Halbarad the standard bearer of the Dunedain of the North.

OK ..... favourite scene for me is Battle of the Pelennor fields and the charge of the Rohirrim - makes a tingle go up my back every time I read from Gandalf standing alone at the broken gate then hearing the horns sound. Great stuff.

Saddest part - the Nirnaeith Arnoediad. I was especially stirred by th eline that went `the light of the drawing of the swords of the Noldor was like a fire in a filed of reeds`.

This probably sounds a bit boys`y.

Great to have you back smiley - biggrin the place hasn't been the same without you smiley - winkeye.

I've been very much indulging in my prime aim for h2g2 .... dropping into conversations and making a witty and interesting comment then spiriting off again into the wide blue yonder leaving an amused (rather than bemused) researcher behind me.

Have fixed up myspace having mastered guideML (after a few hours of headscratching and swearing). Took the liberty of giving you not one but TWO mentions no less smiley - bigeyes.

smiley - erm apart from than v much business as normal here downunder - winters coming and we've had our first rain for 8 months so can`t complain.

Work is a bit bad - I have a truly awful Boss smiley - monster (awful with a capital aw) which is v bad for me - I stoke up smiley - steam and (its a male thing) that is hard to shed and makes me feel smiley - bruised and smiley - injured. H2G2 is a panacea for me - it refreshens the parts other website can`t reach (old UK advertising reference which is probably lost on you).

That aside am still making plans for my guide entries but am still not writing anything (but will have to take the plunge soon).

... and I'm very glad you`re back

Your friend
