Lost Passwords

Not sure where to ask for help in recovering lost passwords.

I am concerned by rumours that any U-space which is not in use
will be deleted. I have heard that this not true but that access
to that account will cease and the researcher must re-register.

More pointedly, even if all old accounts are maintained even if
they are inactive, I hear that any 'deleted' entries will be lost
and permanently deleted. smiley - yikes

I am concerned that two U-numbers used by the AggGag U187783
and the AggGagCAC Continuum (u-unknown) will lose most of their
entries unless someone logs on and uncancels all the deleted items.

The reason these were 'deleted' was simply to 'hide' them prior to
their publication date in the h2g2Post. I would like to have them
uncancelled so they are not lost.

As the founder of AggGag and the subsequent Continuum I hope you
will find time to provide me with the username and passwords for
these two accounts before ALL IS LOST.

The H2G2 Editors

Hi jwf. We're not sure where you've heard that the Personal Spaces of users who aren't active will be deleted. As you say, this is catagorically not true.

However, it is true that anyone who hasn't signed in to their H2G2 accounts since we switched over to BBC iD will have lost access to their content.

We made an announcement about this in January last year (F77636?thread=7218049). Users who'd signed in at least once since June 2009 had a window of six months after we switched over to iD in February 2010 to log in and update their accounts.

Sadly, it looks like the AggGag U187783 account hasn't been signed in to since March 2004 so we wouldn't be able to sign in now. However, no content attributed to old accounts will be lost, it will stay on the site indefinitely. We're not sure what to do about Entries that have been 'deleted' by that account, that is something we would have to look into.

We can't provide the usernames or passwords of old accounts. It's a data protection issue, and truthfully we don't keep a record of them. If you had a username but no password, or vice versa, on BBC iD, you could sign and request that the missing information be emailed to you.

We can however, in special cases, re-assign old Entries to new accounts if you can provide the details and we can prove that they below to you. That's the best we can do I'm afraid.
