Things I like about h2g2v2

Redbeard (Thanks to all who supported The Celery!))

Now that I've gotten to play with h2g2 v.2 for a full day, I thought I'd share some of the things that I like:

The new smiley smiley - tongueout And the new GuideML codes for all the smileys

Speed.

Gadgets. The who's online gadget is really easy to use. Looking forward to seeing what other fun gadgets appear in the future.

Who's Online showing 'new this week' VERY helpful in welcoming newcomers.

Footnotes hyperlinking to text. Very cool.

Stricter approach to GuideML. This may seem odd, but I appreciate it. The way IE used to allow so much sloppiness in html before they recently tightened up used to cause a lot of problems. Strictness in code helps processing speed and makes it easier to add new features in the future without causing problems.

Eliminating the long scrolling windows in forums. Netscape often crashed for me in longer threads, so this helps. And when the feature for getting to the end of the thread is implemented, it'll be great.

Having the code for displaying a page in another skin.
eg See this page in goo!
This will help those of us with pages that are designed for classic goo, so that we know that visitors will be able to see our brilliant design work smiley - winkeye

It appears that the advanced search page has been changed and maybe some of the functions. I look forward to seeing how that works, although it looks like the search engine hasn't been updated yet to take into account forum postings and even all the Guide entries, so I'll wait and see.

Once again, thanks. I know it's been hard work, and dealing with change is always difficult smiley - smiley

Although I don't use the GuideML stuff, I agree with much of what Redbeard sid.

I dialled in from home last night for the first time in a while (as opposed to "netting" in from work), and the speed increase was fantastic.

I also like that netscape won't crash on me- and it IS so much faster to load pages! I can see that someone put in a lot of hard work. Thank you all for having our best interests at heart. smiley - smiley
