A Conversation for h2g2 Feedback

Captain John Carter

Silly me, I was so focused on what I didn't like with the upgrade that I neglected to acknowledge the great work you have done!

I must say that I love the 'Gadgets' upgrade.
I also think the idea of making the Forums quicker to access is wonderful and I will be tickled pink once you get the 'newest' feature online.

I am sure that as I continue I will find more stuff I like. (How about making all those new buttons (such as 'Who's Online' and 'Tell h2g2') available to the 'Classic Goo' skin. Or am I asking for a lot?

Not being a programmer or other sort of computer guru I get to ask these silly questions. (That's my excuse and I am sticking to it.) (Maybe -I think. OK?)

Also doing the changeover in less that three hours is grounds for a raise for everyone involved. Tell those holding the purse strings that I said so. smiley - smileysmiley - smileysmiley - smiley

Thank you for being kind enough to post such nice things. It's really nice to receive such positive feedback. So thanks. smiley - smiley

The whose online button, is available in the classic goo, there's a link to it from the bottom of the front page, or you can put this text into your homepage text Click here to see who's online, and you'll be able to click the link on your homepage.

The Ask and Tell h2g2 pages are also linked from the front page of h2g2, just under the search by category window?

I hope this helps...

Thanks for being so nice, I look forward to bumping into you on h2g2 in the future... smiley - smiley

Peta, I do beg to differ ever so slightly with you over the who's online and the classic goo. It's somehow got lost in the depths of the code upgrade smiley - sadface

Another niggle with the classic goo (OK so I'm an old fashioned traditionalist smiley - smiley) is that the text goes right to the bottom of the page and there is no space between the last line of text and the bottom status bar in the browser. It just doesn't look neat to me and that's one thing I want H2G2 to be neat (in every sense of the word). Is it the same in the other skin?

And yes it was a job well done, I've got to upgrade the software here as part of my job and it's not a fun thing to do (especially at 4pm on a friday smiley - smiley)

It hasn't yet, but that's normally when the coders come over and say there's a new release of X, can you install it to me or any other in the ops team smiley - smiley Not the best of times I can tell you.
It's never a good time for a software upgrade, but fridays are very bad.

We have a rule. Don't ship on Friday or Monday, and always start as early in the day as possible when upgrading a site.

Good Luck

And if they don't listen, give em a slap, it is the only thing programmers understand.

Or take their gadgets away, that works too.

The only problem with that is the boss was once one of the core programming team...
