Did I read somewhere that you had various draft manuscripts that went up in smoke? Any plans to put pen to paper again & work towards getting something published?

And no, I have no intention of pursuing these ideas any further.

Have you received any signs from the gods regarding this site ... and have you now shifted over more or less to facebook to meet various interwebbian intellectual needs?

Perhaps it is the sheer numbers at FB that give it
that sense of unlimited possible personal encounters
that first attracted me to h2g2 in Dec 2000 and kept
me more or less engaged these past 13 years. There
is an unusually high number of mid-easterners with
lousy English skills and even worse teenage trolls
with useless txtspk and ignorance galore. Like h2g2
at the start of the Gulf war...
There are format differences that I am uncomfortable
using - an almost complete inability to search backlogs
and really useless crappy smileys. And the threads race
ahead too quickly leaving previous posts hidden and But it's made up for
by the ease of posting pics and links - a whole new way
to communicate in imagery and visual punning.
There's a range of people I have encountered in two or
three threads which does satisfy much of the old early
days chaos that was the convesrations of ASK h2g2 for
so many years.
And the constant arbitrary moderation by administrators.
Quite a few people are from the UK and I suspect more than
a few of them are actually h2g2 refugees but I've never asked.
Well actually I did once - a university linguist of great renown
in Wales who it turned out claims to have never heard of h2g2
in spite of his wit and his way with words.
I have too many years invested in h2g2 to write it off or
disparage any of it - but the Truth is that it has been
gradually trending toward Wikipedia and away from its FB
conversational beginnings.

Post 5 has been hidden for moderation for 8 hours.
Perhaps we'll never know who said what to whom.
And in what used to be the relatively private space
of my own homepage.

I didn't say there is a fine line between moderation and authoritarianism.
