Hey, does anyone know what the relationship is between this site and http://www.vogon.com/guide?

As I recall, the Vogons blew this guide (along with Ford and Arthur) out of an air-lock.

Absolutely nothing to do with us. We are the one and only official Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, because we have Douglas Adams on the board. Any other Guide is just a mere imposter. And we are doing the cool handheld device, so then we really will be exactly like the Guide from the books. I can't wait to actually hold one..

But that other guide has been around for ages (I remember downloading Netscape 2 so I could handle the frames... it's different now though) and it sure *looks* official. From what I recall when I visited it a few years ago the entries were exactly as they are in the books. They must have permission from DNA or something or else they're breaching copyright!

I've been bugging my friend to plug his Palm III into a modem for the longest time. He finally signed up as outofpaper, but I've yet to see h2g2 on a palm pilot, though we DID put a sticker with the words DON'T PANIC written in nice friendly letters on the cover.

They are breaching copyright, it's a problem with a lot of Douglas' material. You're right - it's been around for ages. It's pretty dead now though. We are the one and only *official* Guide.
Until recently Alta Vista were breaching copyright by calling their translation tool The Babel Fish. But now they've put a link to h2g2 alongside the tool we are friends again.

I remember they were using the babelfish thingy a long time ago (possibly before h2g2). The banner is a nice one. It should be posted along side the other banners. It is true, though, that a lot of people use Douglas Adams' material. Now how many sites can you think of that have an animated gif of the green spherical dude that was on the cover of one of the editions of the books? (and didn't 7up use a red variation of it?) Hell, even Kevin Smith proved the non-existence of God (or at least the method of destruction of...) by means, all to similar to The Hitchiker's Guide (not that I mind, or anything. I mean, Kevin Smith can do whatever he wants)

Kevin Smith... hmm, the name sounds sort of familiar, but, uh... who is he?

Assuming you're not being facetious, this: http://www.imdb.com/Name?Smith,+Kevin+(II) should clear it up.

The confusion is no doubt due to the other Kevin Smith, the Kiwi one most well known for playing Greek gods in Hercule and Xena, as opposed to the Kevin Smith most well known for making strange yet humourous films where guys stand around talking about comic books.

Well, I didn't really know of either Kevin Smith... the first Kevin I thought of was Kevin Milne (he's that guy on Fair Go, right?) and then I had vague thoughts about Hercules but I realised that's Kevin Sorbo. Or maybe not? I don't think I'll bother trying to remember who these people are. Kevin Smith is just too boring a name to belong to the sort of star whose name I'd recognise.
