Hi Kathy :-)
Babel17 Posted Dec 16, 2000
This paper has to be in by monday? How much have you done?
I only ask because I'm concerned.
Pretentious, smenchious It's your field of study. It's what you want to do. I'm interested, otherwise why I have left messages for you? It all broadens my horizons, and gives me new things to think about. i enjoy speaking to new people about new things, and if I make a friend out of it, all the better
just think, it's only a few days until the holidays, when you can relax a bit and catch up and recouperate. So a bit of hard graft now will make that time all the more sweet
With the shifts, I tend to find that I end up speaking to certain people on certain weeks, and I just leave messages for the others. It works (so far). Such is the nature of my life.
So I take what I can from who I can when I can. Emails get replied to as promptly as possible, and that way I stay in touch, even when I cannot be here.

Babel, what is your job?
No, I'm not near done. I wish I were. I wish my roomie would get here so I could go to the library to work. I'm actually about to go get my books and some food and come back here. Or else to call her and wake her . . .
I plan to post some of my research as a guide entry at the H2G2 university over break if I get it approved. Actually, I think I'm going to do Daily Themes and post them as guide entries. Anything to keep me writing and get me warmed up again .
The weather is interesting here. My advisor (not Ina, my art history advisor and a very good friend) said it reminds her of a London day in fall. I don't know--wish I did have that experience .
Kathy

Babel,
The H2G2 "wading through goo" syndrome is getting to me and I need to work, so I can't talk much longer, but feel free to leave me messages and e-mail. See you tomorrow morning my time/afternoon yours hopefully!
Kathy

This what I told somebody else today, strangely enough
"I work in IT. I was employed by a Bank here in Edinburgh, working in Operations, ie making sure all the mainframes are ok, and the autotellers are working, and so on. It's 24x7x365, hence the shiftwork and why I can be absent for some time, but we were 'outsourced' or 'sold up the 'ole Swanee' in September, so now I work for Big Blue (IBM) same job, same place, same hours, same s**te, different paymaster."
So now you know. Call her, wake her, go to the Library, get the paper done, sleep. I'll need to go anyway. Don't stay up too late. I'm not nagging (it might sound like it, but honstly I'm not.), I just worry.
It is very cold here in Edinburgh atm. London I assume is wet, though C posted to me earlier that it had snowed where she is down south, just a little. At least it's not raining. As for London, you will get there one day, if you want to
Just seen your other post, so I'll let you go. have a productive day and we'll speak again tomorrow. I've enjoyed this
*huge arms-wrapped-completely-around-you hugs*

Hope you have had a productive couple of days, and plenty of sleep. Hows your new roomie? All ok?
Might not be on much over the next couple of days, which might mean I wont speak to you for a while. As I said before, email me whenever you can and enjoy the holidays.
Thinking of you

Hi Babel!!!!!
I am still not officially back to H2G2, and honestly, I may not come back to being on as much as I used to be on. If I'm wasting time, I need to at least be feeding my brain (that means wasting time by reading or finding things related to what I'm reading on the net).
Sorry to hear things are not going great. Feel free to e-mail me. Sorry about my non response last time. I got clothes and earrings primarily for christmas--the most interesting gift I got was one of those little tabletop fountains from my godmother. I would really like to get books or CDs or more memory/a ZIP drive for my little laptop, but people never give me what I want anyway. I'm not ungrateful, though. I have a lot more money than a lot of people in this world, and I'm pretty lucky.
Over break I have been participating actively in an anthropology listserv, reading a lot on material culture, collecting, semiotics, and cultural theory, and finding interesting sites on the internet that might be useful to me someday--and thinking about my interdisciplinary degree plan. And trying not to think about a certain someone. I've been mostly successful lately--theory tends to kill that sort of drive.
What are you doing lately? How are things? Did you have a good New Year? Feel free to reply by e-mail or here, although I can't promise I'll be on very often. I am going to stop by my other three threads too.
lots and lots of hugs and warm fuzzies,
Kathy
