Hello Burning Love and welcome to H2G2. smiley - fish

You sound like just the kind of person we need in the Guide...
As you go round meeting people they will get to know you & what you are into...
Another good way to find like-minded people is to write a Guide Entry, then submit it to the Guide, and other Researchers will read it & comment on it. A great way to make new friends!
Well, I came here to greet you, so here's the set greeting:-
I am an Archangel, a fellow Researcher who has volunteered to help and guide new Researchers if they need it.
Thank you for joining our online community and I am sure you are going to have a great time here.
Have fun joining in the forums, or create your own!
Please feel free to search for any subjects which interest you, and if you can't find any Guide Entries on something you know a lot about, please write one!

Burning love.

Thankyou Archangel. I visited your home page and was interested by the SETI stuff. Does this mean you are an American citizen? Is SETI an American organisation or a global thing? We used to have a big radio telescope at Jodrell Bank(?) I'm not sure if it is still funded though.

No, I'm not in America, I live on the East coast of England.
I crunch seti units for berkeley edu.
If you would like the information, I can supply you with it all.
I am a member of the seti Researchers, I've done 100 units almost! {With this team}.
Please let me know & I'll help...smiley - smiley
If you want to check out the team, click on the link on my page!
{The orange, underlined one}.
I think the radio telescope at Jodrell Bank is still there!
I'd have to enquire though...smiley - winkeye

Bistroist

Hi there Burning Love, and welcome to the Guide smiley - smiley

My name's Bistroist and I'm one of the Guide's Assistant Community Editors (ACE's). We're a bunch of volunteers who roam this place trying to be as nice and helpful as possible, and meet and greet as many newcomers as we can.
If there's something you need help with, or just want a few links to some of the cool places in here, I suggest you visit our common homepage.
http://www.h2g2.com/A214796

I'm not sure if you know this already, but there's a welcoming message to all newcomers over here
http://www.h2g2.com/A5752

GB will probably be able to tell you much more about the SETI@home project than I can, since she's part of it and I'm not.
I think the idea originated at Berkeley, California, but as far as I know, you don't have to be citizen of any particular country to join the project.
There's more info about SETI@home over here:
http://www.h2g2.com/A193231

Other questions you'd might like to ask? Try the "ask H2G2" and "How do I..."-forums
http://www.h2g2.com/A148907 and http://www.h2g2.com/A242470

btw. In case you haven't noticed, the "Don't Panic" button in the top menu bar links to an occasionally useful help section.

Don't worry if you don't understand any of this, just stick this in your ear smiley - fish

Hi there, Burning Love! Galaxy Babe seems to have done a fine job of welcoming you to the site, but please allow me to add a couple more links. I'm an Assistant Community editor, or ACE, and we're here to try to answer any questions you might have about h2g2. You can leave a message on my page, or visit the ACEs homepage on http://www.h2g2.com/A214796 .
You might also like to take a look at the Newcomers' Welcome page on http://www.h2g2.com/A5752 . Both pages feature yet more links to intersting and useful places on the site.
When I first saw your nickname, I thought you must be an Elvis Presley fan, since "Burning Love" was the title of one of his hits! Was I right?

Burning love.

Helloo, no sorry my name is nothing to do with THE KING.
I put a sort of explanation on my personal space. Basicly I'm a bit of a looser in love, not to worry though I'm OK with it.
I always remind myself, that one never knows what is around the next corner. Last night I ended up walking a stunning Greek girl acrrossthe Hungerford bridge from embankment to the south bank because she didn't know the way. I gave her my e-mail address so she could theoreticaly at least get in touch.(unlikely admittedly but you just have to be open to uncertanty)smiley - smiley
Otherwise though, I think my nickname is pretty cool. What do you think?

Hey BL!

I don't know about the nickname (that is, I can't see that it's better or worse than a lot of others around the place - who, for example, would call himself 'Mark Moxon'? Unbelievable...smiley - winkeye!), but I am curious about what prompted your rather intriguing comment on my diabetes article...smiley - bigeyes?

Burning love.

Hello Hypoman.
I read you article and was stunned frankly to find that you had writen very concisely, something that I have been trying to communicate to my Diabetes specialist for quite a while. I printed the article and gave a copy to some of my friends at work who were thankfull for the enlightenment. I thought I was just not trying hard enough to be a well controlled Diabetic, and I felt ....less responsible and more ....Doomed? I especialy identified with the analasys of the twisted logic of the hypoglyceamic.
I really identified and was surprised. But a very good article in my humble opinion.

Hypoman

I sympathise, in a big way...smiley - smiley!

Excellent! Glad to hear that the article's turned out to be useful somewhere! How else did your friends react? Have you tried expressing some of what you found to your specialist yet?

'Doomed' is possibly overstating the case, a bit, but I tried to write it the way I've lived it. I no longer feel 'doomed', although the lack of understanding - and, more to the point, what I take to be irrational fear - from some people around me annoys me, sometimes. That's part of why I wrote the article, I guess. I still take responsibility - but only in the same way as a weatherman takes responsibility for the weather: I can only react, I can't 'control'...smiley - winkeye

I looooove the hypo experience... NOT! Some hypos are the closest things I've ever experienced to 'ecstatic transports', though. I just wish they weren't so physically draining...smiley - tongueout!

Burning love.

This isn't exactly a barrel of laughs this dialogue is it!
My friends at work seemed to be .....impressed?...maybee they didn't realise how serious Diabetes can (will) be. At the moment I am 28, and very strong and very fit. But one day that will probably change. I sometimes feel like the Cyclops that traded an eye for the ability to see the future. But they did a deal with the devil and he tricked them so the only future they could see was their own end.
While were still on the subject of diabetic matters, you seem to know quite a lot. Are you a medic of some kind?

Hello at last!...re diabetes article

Post 11

Hypoman

Not intending to make life so miserable...smiley - winkeye!

The cyclops is a good allusion, I suspect. You have a very limited field of view, from which you are supposed to know everything - I might have to use that...smiley - smiley.

I'm not a medic, no. I am a diabetic of some 30-odd years experience, still very fit and quite strong, and determined to make the most of what I have. I've enquired a lot, and read some more, and kept myself interested in what's going on. There's always a lot happening - it's just keeping myself interested that's the hard part!

Anyway, breakfast is up...smiley - smiley!

I can see I'll have to book an appointment to chat with you before much longersmiley - winkeye
So, did the delectable famale email you?smiley - tongueout
{You have to understand how nosy we are around here. If you think we have lives of our own, why would we spend so much time on h2g2?}smiley - winkeye
You have no luck in love?
Join the club....smiley - sadface
If I had a satisfying sex-life, don't you think I'd be in bed rather than on my computer...?smiley - smiley
Still, at least here, there's always the chance you'll meet someone nice, there's a London meet coming up, click here http://www.h2g2.com/A421011 then read the threads attached, if you're interested.
Catch you later, BL.

Hello again Galaxy Babe!
Nice to bump in to you again as it were. I saw your name on the list of people against torture. EEshsh. Horrible. Cant even bear to think about it.NASTY NASTY NASTY.
Makes me cry.

On a much happier note, the Greek babe didn't mail me. But I still had a hugely pleasant walk from Embankment tube, to the Royal Festival Hall. gave my confidence a boost, and boy does it need it just now.
My best friend at work got the sack last week, under at best dubious circumstances* and I'm gutted about not seeing her so often now.smiley - sadface
Saw her tonight, but she was busy, just wanted to hang out, you know? I think I'm a bit of a sad case and I ought to not care so much.(hence the name)

*If you want to mail me less publicly, I would be open to that, but I don't know how to go about it.
I have to go now, I went out drinking last night, and my blood sugars have been arse all day and now I'm Hypo.

Hi again Hypoman, sorry didn't mean to ignore you but didn't have much time to write back. To be honest I haven't got anything worth writing anyway, just wanted to keep the lines of comunication open smiley - smiley

Cool dude! I don't feel ignored, at all.

I'm sitting here listening to Buddy Holly, convincing myself very rapidly that I'm falling in love (again), and thinking life is OK, in spite of all the stuff it keeps throwing at me...smiley - winkeye!

Do you think I should do a blood test...smiley - tongueout!?

well, .........
In the film "Ronin" Robert De Niro uses one of my favorite lines ever.
"Where there is doubt, there is no doubt."
What he is refering to in that situation is that some times you just don't take chances.
So maybee if your not sure, it wouldnt hurt to do a blood test? (although obviously in realty it will hurt a little bit unless you have some sort of nerve problems)
What's all this love & life stuff any way?
Are you OK?
