Pierre de la Mer ~ sometimes slightly worried but never panicking ~ Started conversation Mar 5, 2015
I asked my Facebook friends to join me in the following experiment and now I am asking my Hootoo friends to do the same:
Finish this sentence with two things you find appropriate and desirable:
"At the end of the day there is..."
For example:
"At the end of the day there is ... red wine and moonlight"
PS: At some point I will try to edit everything into a poem

"sleep and dreams"
"A warm hand taking yours and words of hope"
[hold on, more to follow shortly]

"a warm bed with a good looking woman in it; failing that the radio"
"twilight - then stars"
"justice" [Where "at the end of the day" is an expression for a longer time period]
"good music and a beer"

There's still time, we are in no hurry
Just not let this keep you sleepless, 2legs
you've already experienced far too much of that
for all your contributions so far

...my night-time meds and a balanced meal before bed around midnight.

I probably wouldn't answer this as that expression drives me mad!
If I was prosaic with an answer, I would say "Night. And oh God, yet another day after that!"

EV-erybody has started saying "at the end of the day" - when they mean "in the end". Why say 6 words, when three will do?

"In the end" has intimations of mortality that "at the end of the day" doesn't have.
Of course, there's the familiar tale of the Zen master who, no matter how clear cut a pattern seems to be, always says "We shall see."

“The reason that clichés become clichés is that they are the hammers and screwdrivers in the toolbox of communication.”
[Terry Pratchett]
You are right in that clichés should be used with care, TC.
But abbreviate a sentence just to save words and time?
"Romeo loves Juliet who loves Romeo but their families are against it and in the end they both die"
Satisfied?

At the end of the day it's nice time to put your feet up and unwind by listening to some relaxing music.

At the end of the day, I set my clock ahead an hour, for it is the start of Daylight Savings Time.
