Pierre de la Mer ~ sometimes slightly worried but never panicking ~

This is a Swedish film from 1938:

http://www.danskkulturarv.dk/dr/lolland-falster-nyk%C3%B8bing-falster-og-omegn-ca-1938/

The bridge at the beginning of this film opened only one year ealier and is - sadly - soon to be replaced and demolished (read more about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Storstr%C3%B8m_Bridge)

You will probably wonder why our Medieval Center
http://www.middelaldercentret.dk/Engelsk/welcome.html
is not featured in this old film, but in spite of its name it wasn't opened until 1992 smiley - laugh

How will people get between the two islands once the bridge starts to be demolished?

Also, did you mean "where" instead of "were?"

I've never been to Denmarkj, so it's hard for me to imagine what it's like there. "Hamlet," "Beowulf," and "Babette's Feast" were no help to me in terms of imagining the landscape.

Can you drive from the cost of Germany across Denmark and into Sweden without having to use a ferry?

Yes, that is now possible thanks to two large combined bridge and tunnel connections:

Firstly The Great Belt Bridge, which aspired to become the longest suspension bridge in the world, but was beaten to it by a few weeks and has since been surpassed once more so is now #3.

It opened in 1998 and was followed by the Øresundsbron two years later, so for 14 years it has been possible to drive all the way through Denmark. Most of our 500 islands are still only accessible by ferries, though.

In case you are interested there are more details about these bridges here:

And here are some short documentaries about Denmark that are both funny and informative:

This is Denmark's official welcome site for English speaking tourists:

http://www.visitdenmark.com/denmark/tourist-frontpage

I believe it gives fairly accurate information about the Danes and their country
