"Republican North Carolina state legislators have proposed allowing an official state religion in a measure that would declare the state exempt from the Constitution and court rulings. "

That sort of thing didn't work 150 years ago, and it won't work now. The Supreme Court will promptly shoot it down. If I lived in that state, and they named a religion I didn't like as the official state religion, I would be miffed.

In Mississippi it used to be illegal [under the Jim crow laws] to say anything to the effect that whites and blacks were equal in intelligence and general abilities. The Jim Crow laws were thrown out, too.

If the Republicans of any given state don't like living under the U.S. Constitution, they are welcome to select a country whose governance is more in keeping with their views. Perhaps they would not like to live in any countries whose state religion is Islam or Catholicism. To be honest, I sincerely doubt that they appreciate how nice it is to live in a country that doesn't try to force any religious practices down their throats. Something has gone wrong with their minds, in my opinion. For all the grief that many American Muslims have endured, many have said that they have greater freedom to practice their religion in the U.S. than in most Muslim countries. Think about that for a moment. Do the Americans have truckloads of thugs who drive along the roads looking for women who aren't wearing the right sort of burkas or other clothing, so as to arrest them? No! On the other hand, is the U.S, like France, which forbids the wearing of burkas in school?

I agree. The Supreme Court would shoot it down should it really become the law of NC

It is interesting to read words like "federal tyranny". If such a thing existed this guy would not. At least not for long. He obviously doesn't know the meaning of the word tyranny smiley - facepalm

Oh! No! Not that again.

Put me in mind of Andrew Jacksons last moments, as he lay on his death bed.

Asked if there were anything he'd left undone, he responded that he hanged Calhoun and he hadn't shot Clay.smiley - biggrin
