Pierre de la Mer ~ sometimes slightly worried but never panicking ~

Today marks the 40th anniversary of the accession to the throne of Her Majesty Margrethe II, Queen of Denmark, Greenland and the Faeroe Islands

It also marks the first front page I initiated in my 40 years in Danish press

Plus it's my baby sisters birthday

No, I have people for that smiley - biggrin

Daisy has been celebrating for days already, but the ultimate festivities will of course take place today and tomorrow. She will be riding through Copenhagen in one of the royal coaches among other things. Nice weather for it, the sun is out smiley - smiley

I'm sure she will be on tv worldwide. For one thing CNN airs an interview with her today. Old man Foster of CNN was mighty impressed by the lady, he says. Small wonder, she is very good at what she is doing - even I must appreciate that. And I am definitely not a monarchist

But most Danes are and there are many other problems that are far more important than abolishing the oldest monarchy in the world

I should phone my sister and ask her what she has planned smiley - run

Actually a quite moving moment just now: The queen and her closest relatives (25 people at least) laid wreathes at her father's and mother's graves at the cathedral in Roskilde

Moving for us, who still remember king Frederik IX, a tall and straight sailor with lots of tattoos smiley - biggrin

These days Roskilde is probably better known for one of the world's oldest and biggest outdoor rock festivals smiley - biggrin

Congratulations are in order,of course, but I was wondering....

Pierce, does your sister feel bad that the Queen is overshadowing her birthday? If so, maybe the rest of your family could hire a coach so your sister could ride around the streets of her neighborhood.

Thanks for reminding me, Hati. My late father actually wrote a book about the chairs of the choir boys and the graffiti they left carved into them. I believe copies are still sold in the cathedral
