Gnomon - time to move on

My complete Belzoni Entry is now finished A21166535 but I have to decide what to do with it. It's far too long, so should I split it into three, should I cut it drastically? I'll take a day or two to make up my mind.

Opinions are welcome, of course.

Wow! Bravo Bravissimo!

That is so fascinating a read that it would be a shame to cut it up. I had no problem with scrolling down and down into the depths of this vault of treasure. All I could bring out (other than delight) was three typos:

Belzoni became an expert at finding 'mummy pits', these simple graves which were stacked with mummies. > omit these?

A local Arabic tribesman was found who thought he knew it, so they followed his lead for a day, but when they can to the small mound of ruins, Belzoni couldn't believe this was the enormous mining town that Cailliaud had spoken of. > Hmm, don't know why I copied that, there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it. Sorry. I'll look again.

Belzoni was convinced that his life had been threatened was seriously shaken by the affair. > and was seriously?

So he was perhaps the very traveller from an antique land who said: "Two vast and trunkless legs of stone" etc?

Belzoni must have been an inspiration to Sir William Wilde; any chance of an Entry on him?

"That epigram is worthy of an Oscar" exclaimed Tom, wildly smiley - run

Hope the antibiotics don't get you down, G. Get well real soon, y'hear?

Ah yes: when they can > came to the small mound of ruins.

The next sentence is curiously punctuated: He decided to press on to the Red Sea; a couple of days later, they reached the sea, where Belzoni and Beechey went for a swim. > no comma after later?

Hi Gnomon, glad you're feeling a bit better.smiley - biggrin

It's a very interesting read.smiley - bigeyes

Spotted one typo <> - survived.

I think it'd be a shame to split it up - it really invites and encourages the reader to the very end. smiley - applause

Thanks, both. I fixed those minor problems you pointed out.

If it is going to stay as one continous piece, then it will need to lose about 3/8 of the content because it is too long. And I like most of it.smiley - erm

Gnomon this is an amazing piece of work, well done. I understand your concern that it's too long, but you really shouldn't pare it.

I would suggest you treat it as Giford's recent work on the abolution of slavery, he put it into four entries and linked to each in a top bar (like Uni entries) and submitted them all to PR at the same time (they've just been recommended & edited inhouse, and the links need changing to the edited versions as soon as they've gone live).

That way you wouldn't lose any content. Plus you get to choose where to split the entries. smiley - ok If you can make five entries, make it a Uni project and I'll volunteer to be your sub-ed.

I am so pleased to hear you're feeling bettersmiley - hug If you reply please don't expect a response until approx Monday, I'm off to London early tomorrowsmiley - biggrin

I've split Belzoni into three and bunged it into Peer Review. I don't expect too many problems there.
