And seeing as how the London meet organisers have stolen our "nearest Saturday to the anniversary of DNA's death" idea, if they're getting a front page plug, it's only fair that we should get one too. smiley - nahnah

Nobody's stolen anything from anybody. It's not a competition, and I can't see why only one meet should be advertised on the FP when there are two different meets.

Don't worry, Pierce, you're not ruining anything for anybody. smiley - hug

The Scots will have their towel day with the usual crowd, and a different crowd will meet in London for Hypatia's birthday and hootoo's birthday.

I'm afraid I disagree Bel. It's been common knowledge for years that we hold a Towel Day meet in Edinburgh so I find your attitude a tad derogatory.

smiley - erm Maybe it's because there's no way I can make either, but I didn't sense any attitude... and I think saying "the usual crowd" shows an awareness of the long-standingness of the Towel Day Meet. But I could be wrong.

I'm not quite sure what you're so angry about, fords.
I've gone through the lists of the Towel Day meets for several years back. I've only discovered three attendees (bar you and EV) which I've met at London meets. None of them have signed up for London this time (and all of them have been to Edinburgh for towel day only once, whereas I've met them in London much more often).
The 'usual' crowd attending Towel Day consist of people I've not even ever met here on hootoo, let alone in RL.

Post #1 here says it all:

So if you are suggesting that this year's London Meet distracts attendees from the Towel Day Meet, then this is just ridiculous, imo.

Jesus, talk about sense of humour failure. What do you think the smiley - nahnah smiley is there for?

I didn't see the smiley - nahnah smiley in fords' post, to which I replied, EV. smiley - smiley

Do you know why most of the Scottish researchers (including myself and EV) stopped attending the London meets? Because with a few notable exceptions the general reaction to a meet in Edinburgh is 'oh but it's too far away', so the Scottish reserchers started to feel marginalised. Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland and is very accessible so that argument just doesn't work for me. It's only an hour by plane from London so if people in Scotland have made the journey to London and beyond in the past, why is it such an issue to come to Edinburgh.

To be honest with you I really couldn't care less any more because the Scottish meets are always more fun than the English ones anyway. Think I'm just saying this? Then come to Scotland and find out how fun a meet really should be. smiley - smiley

Well, this London meet will be my first hootoo meet. I chose the London one because it was the one I heard about (it's also easier to get to, but I'd like to go to Scotland some day). It's a pity they clash, but it's too late to do anything about it now. It was a mistake, not a snub, and there's no reason to feel hurt about it. The point's been made now, and the clash is unlikely to happen again. Maybe next year I'll get to both.

In the meantime, the doctor is right: both should get a front page plug.

over the years i've been to meets in the netherlands, germany, denmark, estonia and one very un-officia onel in nodnol, which i initiated myself since i had to be in nodnol anyway (and i'm still proud that abi came an attended it, i had met her at my first dutch meet - along with our late brother pheloxi by the way smiley - smiley)

there have been lots and lots of meets that i did not have the opportunity to attend smiley - cry

i would absolutely love to attend towel day in edinburgh but since i have both four siblings and four ex-siblings-in-law i know for a fact that we can't all of us expect be at the very same place and in the very same time anyway, so we will just have to wait and see what is feasible and what is not

again: none of us ever intended to screw anything up for others and i hope that over the years we may meet in the netherlands, germany, denmark, estonia, london, edinburgh, kuala lumpur, you name it smiley - zen

I'd love to get to a Scottish Meet (everywhere is flipping miles from Devon, so it makes no odds). Problem for me is that my birthday is on May 10th, so I'm always going to be wanted elsewhere!

I'd love to go to Edinburgh one day, too, but I would have to win the lottery first. It's three times the price of a flight to London. smiley - yikes
