I believe that when people have a problem they should work to resolve that problem and not just sweep it under the carpet and leave it to fester – apparently such a policy makes me a bad person

I agree with your policy too, Happy...
Granted, it's hard to follow all the time, and sometimes a person needs some time to come to grips with the problem first, but there always comes a time when you need to deal with things, right?

So you had a wee argument, I see. I'd just take a step back, a few deep breaths, but on a smiley face and get on with life - the Italics don't bear a grudge unnecessarily, so if you area bit careful for a while, all will hopefully be well again! Good luck!
