I've had a suspicion for years that there was a roadie with the Smashing Pumpkins that existed only to kick Billy Corgan in the groin before each song...

Can I join?
I play: clarinet and guitar (but now my wrist is not too good, so I need a break on the guitar). Play jazz, Wind band music... basically everything.
I sing first alto in a jazzchoir.
Listen to: jazz, blues, classical (I love Grieg and Bach)and basically everything exept techno and chewing gum music. (Aqua, Britney Sprears and so on..) One of my favourites is Leonard Cohen, but I am not really sure under which category to place him.
Anything else? Well, feel free to ask..

The Pink Dandelion (Taraxacum non-officinale) - Keeper of the Shrubbery Posted Nov 13, 2000
Hiiya - I'd love to join! I've just tried to weasel my way into the Choral society too. (Is that allowed?)
I'm primarily a mezzo soprano singer, though I can also hold my own on piano, guitar, flute and recorder.
I've got an A-level in practical music, for what it's worth, and
I can thump out a decent tune on the following: oboe, clarinet, saxophone, autoharp (a cheat's instrument anyway) and bass (electric).
I do own a violin, though I can only saw out a few levellers rifs very very badly (virtual violin lessons gratefully received!!!)
I adore Beethoven, Mozart, Debussy and just about anything choral written in breves without bar lines. (Chanty chanty)
I also like the Manic Street Preachers (old stuff, I'm afraid) Radiohead, the Beatles, Doris Day, Serge Gainsborough and Nirvana, among others.
I'd like to meet musicians, likeminded or otherwise (it's soooo much better to jam with people who hate your stuff. Talk about creative conflict - electric!) and, well, jam. Is that a good enough aim? I'm too knackered to save the world today.
Let me play you Debussy's first arabesque to relax you.
Hmmm, that's nice.
Think Pink........

Third movement of pathetique one of my faves ever! Never quite got it sounding perfect (always a bit clunky towards the end) but LOOOOOVVEEE that tune! The whole sonata is divine, but there's something about the light relief of the last that I love!

Hi, I'd like to join the Guild please, and here is my application.
I don't play any instruments, I'm the singer (well, vocalist) in my band.
My joint favourite bands are Cradle Of Filth (metal) and Pink Floyd (non-metal).
From the Guild, I would like - in particular - advice for getting my band into gear and starting it all up. There's nothing special I can really contribute as I have no experience yet of actually being on stage or anything and I can't play any instruments, but I'm more than happy to contribute my time! I will play an active part in the Guild's growth and try to be helpful in any ways that I can.

Sorry, Pink Dandelion.
I have updated the membership list. Those of you who joined in the last few weeks might enjoy seeing yourself on it. It is at http://www.h2g2.com/A438068
To put the membership graphic on your personal page, go to http://www.h2g2.com/A434648
Finally, we recently voted on an unofficial name for members of the Musicians Guild. We decided to call ourselves MuGs. So welcome to all our new MuGs!
While I'm at it, I want to take this moment to plead for help in maintaining the Guild. I need at least one person willing to become a co-owner of the club.
The volunteer(s) should be at least passingly familiar with GuideML (or HTML). They will help me maintain the membership list and the directory of music-related entries, and can help keep momentum going with Guild discussions on our group's main page. Please reply to this post to volunteer.

Ariel Posted Dec 13, 2000
Hi-
Lets see... I primarily play taiko (huge Japanese drums), fue (Japanese flute), and, fiddle (Celtic mostly). I muck around with the piano (I'm terible), and have been known to play the accordian when one is available after far too many pints, which fortunately is a rare coincidence.
Favorites: Kodo, San Fracisco Taiko Dojo and my own group, Kaminari Taiko (shameless self promotion there), Gocoo, Dead Can Dance, Barenaked Ladies, Mozart, Elvis Costello, Jane Sibbery, Afro Celt Sound System, Benny Goodman, New Order, Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks, Itzak Perlman, M. Alvarez... maybe I should stop there
I would love the opportunity to talk music, especially new genres and world music with others!
Not sure what I can offer, but I'm willing to be an active participant.
cheers-
Ari

I've added you to the membership list, Ariel. If you want to see yourself listed on it, go to http://www.h2g2.com/A438068

Since I recently read your entry on Taiko and liked it, I have added a link to it from the Guild's main page. I also included a link to the Peer Review thread so your fellow MuGs can give you feedback if they want.
It must be a wierd coincidence about Barenaked Ladies. I like the band. You do. And the person who joined just before you, Carla the Canadian, also apparently does. Neat.
Anyway, feel free to start a discussion about whatever you like. Your perspective on music will probably be interesting to other people here, and we haven't really discussed worldwide concepts of music yet.

I would like to join
I play guitar and recorder, and I hope to someday play bass and harmonica.
My favorite bands are Nirvana, the Smashing Pumpkins, and NOFX.
What I want from the Musician's Guild is information about music and other musicians to talk to.

If I recall correctly, you're our first member with a professed interest in Nirvana. I know we have a couple of other Smashing Pumpkin fans, though.

Hello, please can I join?
I play (in diminishing order of ability) Double Bass, bass guitar, guitar, piano, ukelele. To quote Mr. Lennon, I also play the fool.
I sing, have been in choirs and a barbershop group. I also compose (although am not great at musical notation) and write lyrics.
I like all sorts of music...rock, ragtime, 'classical' (mostly romantic and classical), swing...
From the Guild...I suppose the main thing at the moment is just to read stories fellow musicians have to tell!

Thanks for joining, KC. I've added you to the group's membership list. Check the post above yours if you're interested in putting a Guild graphic on your personal page.
It occurs to me that the Guild doesn't currently know of *any* entries on swing as a musical genre. It's a bit of a shame, really.

Voice of Reason Posted Dec 31, 2000
Well, I play the trombone (greatest of all instruments) and sing tenor.
My favorite composers are Tchaikovsky, Vivaldi, and Holst.
My favorite band would be the Eagles, the greatest band ever to perform bar none.
What can I contribute? Ask and we'll see. I probably don't know all the stuff I can or will do yet.

Welcome to the Musicians Guild, Voice of Reason. I've added you to our membership list. I think you'll have some arguing to do with the other members about the "greatest band to ever perform," though.
