h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

I'm trying to connect a keyboard to an Ibook via a midi interface, but I'm having real trouble getting garageband to acknowledge the keyboard exists. If there is anyone out there who knows a bit about midi who could help, please let me know.

The obvious bits: have you checked the cables are OK, the drivers are installed and are there any little lights on the interface to let you know if there's any activity anywhere?

but looking at the Apple website, it appears I'm not the only one who has had trouble with yamaha products and mac. Other people seem to be having difficulty too. Apparently I may need to update the driver, and I'm waiting to hear from yamaha to see if there are any major problems with the USB device I've been sold (the lights are not always on when in use).

As for Apple, they don't seem to have a customer service email address-it would be easier to email them all the details rather than ringing. I want to check if theres something I've missed-i'm a mac newbie, see.

What has happened is I have run all the diagnostic tests make sure it is working properly, and they say 'hey! no problem!' but when I actually try and use the stuff with the mac audio programs it doesn't work. It also seems to forget to display that I have a new device attached in any of the preferences for these programs.

Its a shame, because up til now I haven't had a problem with my mac at all.

I think in the window menu theres something like environment, and then you get this numbered grid, and some other symbols, one representing your keyboard, or you might have to go into new to get it, and then you link it up.

Clear as mud, but the best I can do for now.
