I believe I may need mental help...
Oolon Flux Started conversation Aug 23, 2000
I am a bit concerned about the half-bottle of sloe gin that I consumed for dinner last night and its repercussions... I called my ex-boyfriend and surely sounded pathetic and miserable without him (which is by the way completely untrue - to the contrary dumping his sorry ass was the best move I've made all year, financially better too)... I just hope he doesn't show up now and attempt to "rescue me"! What will I do? My feeling at the moment could only be summed up by saying this:
Relationships or the lack thereof suck the big one!
I believe I may need mental help...
sen sible Posted Aug 24, 2000
Why? I'm sure the half-bottle didn't mind being drunk.
Not being from the USA (I assume u are) I am finding the phrase "suck the big one!" puzzling.
Suck the big one... translation
Oolon Flux Posted Aug 24, 2000
Well, yes I am from the good ole degenerative USA and "suck the big one" would be a reference to that thing that guys love having done but girls don't really think is so great (come on ladies be honest) which therefore makes "sucking the big one" a vile and evil thing to do.
Does that help?
2nd best thing all year
Chicken in black Posted Aug 24, 2000
You could try letting him 'rescue' you... then dump him again!
2nd best thing all year
Oolon Flux Posted Aug 24, 2000
No, he costs too much and he's really only good for one thing...
Good for 1 thing
Chicken in black Posted Aug 24, 2000
Aren't we all?
Have you considered stalking him and throwing cheese from a distance? (or does he produce prodigeous quantities of cheese 'in-house', hence your remarks on "sucking the big one"?)
Yes, costs too much...
Oolon Flux Posted Aug 24, 2000
My ex-whatever was of the opinion that I should be thrilled to be with such a young, vital, good-looking, sexy guy and that there was really no purpose in him working or contributing to the family cause in any way shape or form... So yes, he was a definite expense to have around, while he didn't make any money he excelled at spending mine...
Yep!

Sorry... Cheese is about the only thing that springs to mind when I see 'Wisconsin'. Sort of a Pavlovian effect (or do I mean meringuey? or is that a dance?).
I apologize for the delay, by the way. I'm in N.Ireland, and had finished work for the day.

Network Analyst. I am responsible for the computer systems and network infrastructure at the local hospital. I work on a team of 6. It's is very interesting and challenging and it pays quite well. I feel very lucky that I like my job as much as I do, it makes it much less like work and much more like play!

So have you dodged any bullets lately or are you one of the shooters? Sorry, that's the first thing that comes to my mind when someone says Ireland! LOL (those ignorant americans...)

You didn't ask but here's the answer anyway.
Systems Analyst, although I think of myself as a software engineer.
I am not responsible for a great deal here but then I've not been here long.
I also work in a team of 6. It's _not_ very interesting, it is challenging, and it pays more than I want to announce to the world.
I always feel lucky
Oh, and I went to a music event on Sat - but i imagine it was a bit different from events on
your side of the Atlantic, or maybe it wasn't.

The problems in NI are serious, and I am not sure that many people wan't to crack jokes about it yet.
I am not from Ireland, north or south so I don't feel qualified to make any judgement about the situation.
However I do know that most Irish people are really great.
N. Ireland
Chicken in black Posted Aug 28, 2000
I'm from N.Ireland and quite happy for people to make jokes. People here have a very black sense of humour, but most of the jokes require local knowledge. Any new ones, for or against either side, gratefully accepted.
On a serious note, in the area where I live, there have been more 'incidents' i.e. knee-cappings, petrol bombings etc. since the Good Friday agreement was signed than before.
Kiss me by the Blarney Stone
Oolon Flux Posted Aug 28, 2000
I wasn't trying to make light of the situation in Northern Ireland - I am Irish myself, maiden name is Good. I just had to get a little jab in after the cheese throwing comment!
Mmm.. better not.
Chicken in black Posted Aug 29, 2000
In the same vein as your 'Blarney stone' reference, I was going to write about a wee fishing village in County Donegal called Muff, but its probably better not to go there.
I'm ashamed to admit it, but the only things I can think of in connection with Wisconsin are the Packers, cheese, Madison and something vague about badgers.
How's the gin consumption these days?
No more gin for me...
Oolon Flux Posted Aug 29, 2000
...at least for a couple weeks! I'm on-call for work thru the holidy weekend so that means no drinking and no travelling. Just sitting at home with my PC waiting for my pager to go off!
And... Wisconsin is indeed the Badger State, the Green Bay Packers Rule!, and we are very proud of our cheese as we are also the Dairy State. I was actually born in Minnesota so I'm not a true cheese-head, I'm a mud-duck - but I have made every effort to convert to true cheesedom.

Sorry to hear about you having to work over the holiday. From the press etc, I'd concluded that everyone in the States headed to the Hamptons (whereever that is!).
As it wasn't a holiday here, I was forced to have a few sick-days off work (in sympathy).
I hope that your ginless condition doesn't continue too long, as sometimes its just necessary to get wasted and talk rubbish to whoever will listen - very therapeutic for you, if not for those around you.
