The Northern Lights
Jack O' All Trades Posted Sep 23, 2000
I saw the Aurora once many years ago when I lived in northern Vermont. Luckily I looked out the back window of the house before going to bed. What an indescribable display. I watched from the back yard for over an hour. It was winter and I almost froze!

Me too. And thanks for the links - I'll try them out later today. I'm really envious of some friends who moved to Norway a few years ago, about 300km above the Arctic Circle. They must have had such good displays! There's a weather cam at the university where one of them works, but I've not seen it catch any aurora yet, if indeed it can. I guess there's about another 6-12 months of potential good displays yet, and I know that they've been seen as far south as west Texas, so maybe there's hope for us yet

Would you mind posting a link to that weather cam, please?

It is - if your idea of fascination is watching lots and lots of Norwegian rain, followed by lots and lots of Norwegian snow . Actually, it *really* is fascinating to see other places that you can't get to right now, particularly if you have some kind of connection, like friends living there. Thank you for your kind words about being a font, but I think it's just that I happened to know a few that interested you as much as me. I'm sure you'll reciprocate somewhere down the line

I'd heard about the Northern Lights, but I'd never seen them.
The first time I did, I had no idea what I was looking at. I was convinced that it had something to do with a UFO, though!
After I'd been outside, freezing, for about 1/2 hr...it dawned on me!
"The northern lights have seen queer sights, but the strangest they ever did see.."
Was, that night on my lawn, just before dawn, someone stared at the sky...It was me.
.....beautiful sight!
