A 6 foot tall doughnut casts a shadow 3 feet long on the ground. If the doughnut was 12 feet tall, how many feet in length would the shadow be ?

Oh hello there Dancer, it is often quiet on the weekends. This question has got a bit too much geometry in it for my liking so I'm going to assume you have worked it out properly and say well done!

Do we have to do trigonometry?
On a Sunday?
I'm not sure my religion approves of that.
On the other hand, there's probably an easier way.
I shall just sit here till everyone's worked it out and help eat the 12'
Or I shall wait till midday when the shadow is non-existent because the sun's directly overhead.

Assuming the Sun is at infinity, I would have thought a 6 foot shadow would be in order...

Of course, there are an infinite number of answers - it all depends where the light source is. For instance, if the light is 12 feet above the ground, and 3 feet horizontally behind the , we still get a 3 foot shadow for the 6 foot donut, but an infinite shadow for the 12 foot donut.
Anyway, if there arethese huge great s around, why hasn't Greebo eaten them?

Perhaps this was a trick question..... and the answer is that it casts no shadow as its been eaten!

the asnwer is 12 feet.
6 foot = 6 single foots by themselves. 3 feet = 3 pairs of foots which = 6 foot. so, going by this the answer must be 12 feet.

yes it would, but i decided not to mention that as greebo wanted to know how many 'feet' long the shadow was.

I'm going to guess (because I'm no good at math-type stuff and assume that this is some sort of clever trick question) that the answer is 3 ft!

Well done Dr StJ... 6 foot wa what me wanted... and you were the first to supply it... ~grin~
